I have a turbo back exhaust upper and lower inter cooler pipes and a intake and a tune. still get about 21 mpg.
I have similar mods and make 23 hwy/19.5 city - maybe the driving style makes some difference.

Its good to see the Subaru guys not being bias.

If you didn't already have an EVO this would be a harder choice.

I wouldn't worry much about mileage at higher horsepower.

I gained about 4-5 mpg highway (putting me at 27-28) after getting tuned with 880 injectors, cams, intake, exhaust, etc on 91octane.

sounds like a nice subu, yet id be afraid of that motor blowing as well at that hsp level, sounds like a lot of money is invest and a very fun car but to make it reliable youll probably want to lower boost,

less boost = more reliable which also = less fun hahah

Id personally start with your own evo and make a wish list and understand what you want and then go for it, since you dont "need the room" of the wagon, stick with your evo

for the love of god keep the evo. last thing you want is to buy someone's problems.

this is coming from someone that has owned 2 11sec subys. that motor should be fine though. i ran 28psi putting out 400whp on a stock ej25 (93 + meth) for about 30k miles. the utec scares me though. those things are absolute garbage.

id be more worried about grenading that trans. RA gears are not much stronger then the standard 5 speeds. i stripped every tooth off my 3rd gear in my wrx.

I have a 05 WRX wagon, I do not have mods on the car and my impression of the car isn't bad, however the space gain is minimal at best. First off, unless you are 5 foot tall, there is zero leg room in the rear, the evo has more room by far. Second, trunkspace in the evo isnt bad, and the hatch area of the wrx isn't that much more. lastly, the stock WRX seats are uncomfortable as hell, long trips will beat the hell out of you.

Evo dollar for dollar, mod for mod will beat an STI every day of the week and twice on sunday!

Thanks again for all of the input
I plan on visiting Perrin Performance one of these weekends and buying some new gauges (why would I ever need to know my battery voltage???) and an intake as I loved the sound of the wagons whooshing noise when the turbo was spooling.

Is it recommended to get a tune after every mod I do? I plan on doing an intake, LICP, DP, test pipe, CB in that order spread over a few months. I would not be able to afford to tune it after every install. Is it better to save my money until I can buy it all at once and then tune it once?

Thanks in advance.

Changing the intake will cause you some problems, even after a tune in most cases. You should read up on it or make it your last mod before you get a tune. Installing a test pipe will make your car quite a bit louder and possibly land you a ticket depending on where you live, you should check out some alternatives. Plus if you drive alot, it will get old.

My advice is to take ALOT of time reading over the forums and decide what you really want out of your evo. Simple bolt on mods can change the driving characteristics of your car significantly and in some cases ruin a otherwise good running engine if you do not get a proper tune.

One of the cool things about the Wrx Wagon is that it is stealthy. I have a lot of fun with my Stage 2 Wagon at stop lights when some nuts@ck in a Lexus/Infiniti/BMW luxury car tries to keep up or pass. Great fun! The Evo with the wing looks the part and people tend to chase and mess with you more on the highway.
