new engine rough starting

Just go engine rebuilt. Is it normal for it to be really hard starting? cranks, but seems slow.

What do you mean? It cranks but doesn't start? It is slow to turn over while cranking....
perhaps your battery is dead.... needs more juice

If it is just cranking slow it could be a dying battery, doesn't necessarily mean it is the engine.

I would hope somebody spun the engine by hand before even installing it in the car... If that's the case it shouldn't be the engine but more likely the battery.

You should be more specific. What mods do you have on this new engine? Is it struggling to turn over from huge cams or lack of voltage. I wouldn't think it was the starter if it cranks consistently.
