Crappy roads and an evo

Ive been told by two different people (both evo owners) on how the evo performs on crappy roads. Not the broken asphalt kind, but the dirt filled rock infested kind. Now, i dont mean how fast can that baby haul, but, one side says that (even though i completely disagree) it doesn't take steep climbs well, and another says it powers through like an animal.

So which is it?

Is the evo drivable under rocky crappy roads? I mean after all, it is a rally inspired ya know?

I live on a gravel road, and people always ask y I never wash my car. I tell them im lucky I get to have as much fun as I do in my car and the dust doesn't bother me. I personally think it does wonders in gravel snow ice anything after all it is awd and like u said rally inspired. Hills? My car pulls up steep hills like it was a downhill. The turbo helps alot going uphill I see maybe 2 psi on steep hills normal driving but barely mashing the gas any harder and speed stays the same unlike most na cars where u almost have to floor it and speed still drops. Something must be wrong with the persons evo that said they suck on hills. If our cars sucked on hills there probably wouldn be an annual meet at the tail of the dragon over in the smoky mountains.

The guys here sometimes act like the Evo is harsh. Compared to any Mustang of mine, the Evo is softer when it comes to the ride, yet it has stiffer shocks with way less body roll than the Mustang. Going over bumps doesn't toss the rear end into a fit either.

My IX has just been a dream. I'm worried about when I need a new car since they aren't making these anymore and the X isn't exactly my ideal car.

I've already hit far harsher roads than I'd ever think about taking my Mustang on. The car does fine, no issues really.

The only complaint is that the Evo due to AWD, is a bit harsh in 1st gear if you are going slow and let off the pedal quickly. It bucks if you are not smooth even though the clutch is engaged. If you just stab the throttle hard and quickly let off, it's very rough in 1st gear.

The mustang was better for getting stuck in traffic where you are rolling at 2-5mph and would like to just keep it in 1st and avoid pressing the clutch in every time traffic nearly stops. You could let off the gas even at 1200-1500rpm in 1st and it wouldn't buck. The Evo does, but I don't get stuck in traffic that often anymore. Simply driving it smoother fixes that issue, but other less skilled drives might find it hard to drive compared to other manual trans cars.

Thanks.

You can see new growth on the sides of the creek bed. Before the flood waters went down the evo would have been covered.

Here is a link to a few more shots from yesterday.

Way back when I had my 06 STi. I know I know I don't have an Evo vid. But this is to show my hill. Its insane in the winter. AWD/4WD is a MUST, whoever said Evos can't go up hills was full of it. Its the exact opposite. I have been so pleased with the ride, there are crater like pot holes I have to avoid daily and it does so without issue.

Btw, my STi was on Tein Coils.

Haha! Its a good and bad thing a lot of the time. Suspension ware and dust are insane going up and down 2+ miles of gravel daily. But its fun!
