coby tablet as an engine scanner/tunner
coby tablet as an engine scanner/tunner

just wondering what some of you guys think about running a tablet as an engine scanner/tunner/obd2 reader
i've been tossing around the idea of getting a greddy infometer touch but this looks like it could be pretty promising esp since its only 149$

hey no offense taken, i mean it really doesn't take too much processing power to MONITOR computer functions and do some minor tunning off of it, im not talking about something to completely replace the radio or anything.. many of these tablets still have more power than computers that came out 5-6 years ago.. for 149$ i think this could be a cheap easy way to monitor gauges and maybe clear ecu codes... if there was a program out then it would be pretty cool, i mean they make bluetooth aps for the iphone why not make something sim to that work with something as cheap as this?
yea I guess you make a good point, I'm just a all in one person like I want to purchase a car computer to replace everything instead of having all these gauges and stuff but anyways it up to you man.
I have a viewsonic g tablet with a bluetooth obd2 adapter. Works great with logging . When the beta version of evoscan gets released for android I will definitely be testing it out.

But the tablet can serve the same function as a car computer, take up less space and already comes with everything. The cheapness part depends on the tablet but I dont know how you can say it will be inaccurate since the accuracy comes from the obd2 adapter and the software.

picture for visual learners like me

but on something a little bigger and cheaper with about the same processing power, the greddy infometer is almost $400!!!!! i just wish i had more computer skills to write a program that could work with the coby or something similar and either mount it somewhere or use it ocassionally for datalogging
the main reason i'm not a fan of "carputers" is bc im an audiophyle, i think having seperate components doing what they were designed to do would be much better for me plus i don't have to wait for a computer to boot up
There is an app for android, Torque. It costs only $5 and $20 for a bluetooth adapter off of ebay. Works really good on monitoring stuff and read and clear codes. Sorry no tuning with this.
hmm well that sounds almost perfect, so for 25$ and an any android phone i can view codes, clear them, and monitor all of my gauges.. for under 200$ the coby and this bluetooth device seems like a pretty cool idea.. im thinking there are ways to add sensors somehow, that could make this a workable deal here, pluse when evoscan comes out with their android sofware this could be a pretty quality solution for not alot of money, let alone people that would rather run a tablet instead of a head unit
here are some screen shots

look familiar anyone? haha

torque is going to have some serious issues when this comes out...... serious issues bc the evoscan looks a little more complete, im just wondering how they are going to tie in the knock sensor and afr plus boost
