I have an e36m3. I used to run the AA kit stg2+ turbo kit. The car was making over 360hp at the wheels. The fastest I ran in the 1/4 mile was a 12.3 and i was getting wheel spin in 3rd gear. While you can compare the two, the cars (m3 and evo) really are two totally different cars. The M3 is a nice luxury coupe, heated seats, nice stereo, leather, trip computer... The Evo is an econobox that goes and turns extremely fast. For 35 grand you could have a 95 e36m3 that would keep up with any evo. That being said, I am struggling hard with the decision of whether to get an evo or keep my car. My m3 has been bullet proof. I cant give driving impressions of owning an evo, but I doubt you will be disappointed with either car. It will really come down to what type of creature comforts you want i guess.

ps. Ive never heard of someone do a evo swap and sc it, who would do this for you?

I really do not think E36 M3s are luxurious... I have the 97
lux model... The interior is very plain compare to real luxury
car like... Lexus?? Stereos on the M3 (or any BMWs) are
crap, absolutely junk... Leather is good, nice and soft. Trip
computer is also very helpful, if you do use it.

Making over 400hp for either 95 OBDIs and 96+ OBD2s...
Im in Miami where Active is based out of. my dad takes his mercedes there to tune and ****. the parts they have for the cars are incredible. if one of my friends gets an M3, im going to have him take it there to tune, cuz for the price they charge, u can get alot of power at a not so expensive price. but then i will have to kill him in my Evo. that place is great and i know all the guyz there. when i get my Evo, i am goin to take it there to dyno it. im gonna see what kind of power i can push out.

Luxurious compared to the Lancer... Of course its not going to be as good as a car built for luxury but for a sports car i think the m3's interior is pretty good. I also disagree about the stereos being crap. I think the HK system is pretty decent for stock. What stock stereo do you think does better?

Claudius,

Well I suppose in a straight line... But arguing about which would be better handling is really academic in my opinion, there really wouldnt be much of a way to test it. Although i will say I dont believe that an m3 with a set of decent coilovers and sways would get trashed by an evo. (Which you could include into the 35k I listed)

Bring it on. if you want to see an M3 getting it's butt kicked thats not a problem. I havent seen a M3 doing low 11's or even 10's where in total you've spent under 15k. Im talking an Evo 1-3 with say an extra 5-6k on mods would let loose on an M3. ANY M3!!!

My original post was really to compare the price of the evo8 coming out and that of a turbo charged m3 since that is the decision this person will be making. I'm not comparing the m3 to that of some old beater evo in which you can dump money into and make fast.
I could buy a $800 honda crx and dump 20 grand into it and run 11's all day long. Whats your point? A bathtub would run 10's with enough mods.

Well ...

I have driven an E36 M3 3.2l (321 bhp) with Bilstein Monotube dampers and custom springs for 2 years. And I can tell you there is absolutely no comparison in handling.

so in your opinion which would be the better?

Gmat
a bathtub doing 10's? maybe if that bathtub were made by mitsi id believe it . I was not the one that posted who was quicker out of the 2 i was merely replying to that post. As for the crx doing 10's or 11's all day, do you think at the end of the day you could simply jump in the car and drive it home with out taking the wheely bars and slicks off, I couldnt imagine a 10 sec crx being driven around the city every weekend it would be more of a turn up on a trailor and straight back to the workshop. Where as wheather it be my 3 or 7 I can use as a work car during the day and drag at night.
