gauge cluster problems

okay so the other day im getting on the interstate and decide to do a little 2nd gear pull.. i look down to see my speedometer working fine but then i shift to third (not heavy on the throttle anymore) and i look down to see my speed only to see my speedometer isnt registering anymore and just sitting on the needle at 0 so i figured id give it a day or two to see if it would fix itself.. nope not as planned . so i take my gauge cluster out to see if a wire or something was loose but nope, not that either.. but then ran into another problem when i put the cluster back in my tach is sketching out now. when im driving the rpms with rise and then when the cars actual rpms drop the tach stays the same, and then will drop after a couple seconds. so i guess you consider it a peak/hold .. also changed the oil yesterday and then tried to reset the trip, only to find out that my mileage is not registering either!!! anybody else have this problem and what did you do to solve it. dont feel much like taking it to the local mitsubishi dealership cause i dont have an arm or a leg to give away.

There is a vehicle speed sensor attached to the transmission I believe. It may have came unplugged or just stopped working. When you took the gauge cluster out, did you accidentally touch the needle for the tach?
