Is Mitsu the only one that has such horrible warranty issues??
I'll be buying my EVO with the next few weeks and I keep getting brought down by these warranty nightmare posts. The more recent one in particular about the fuse and getting ripped out of $60....pisses me off. I just need to know if all these are isolated cases or if Mitsu is really that bad. Those of you who have had experience with multiple car companys please chime in. I have only delt with Ford and Chevy and didn't have any major problems with them. Mods were never an issue, thats for sure. I did have to fight a little with Chevy to get my driveshaft replaced in my 97 Z28 with an aluminum one per bulletin that they supposedly knew nothing about till a week went by, but I got my way.
So are all dealers like Mitsu for the most part or is Mitsu really bad?

Every company has it problems..But from the post I read it just seems that Mitsubishi oesn't like to fix the problems and instead blame it on other things to get out of warranty work.....I use to take my chevy trucks in for major tranny damage from slam gears while racing and it took til the 6th one b4 they said they wouldn't fix anymore...After that I started using the clutch again...
I've had no problem with any warrenty issues. Honestly, anyone can decide to be a jerk about warrenty stuff, just find a dealership with employees who actually care about you and you're car and you will have no problem.
Yeup, its really dependent on the specific dealership you go to get your car serviced at.
Just don't expect mitsubishi to cover your warranty when you start changing cams, pistons, etc. I've heard some pretty irrational stories about mitsubishi dealerships not honoring their warranty, but if you were the dealership and an evo came in to your shop that was modded to hell, why would you pay for it to get it fixed? The dealership might not be able to prove that the aftermarket part is at fault, but they can probably blame it on the installation. In which case, if you installed the part yourself, you're out of luck. If you had a shop install the part, you can ask the shop to warranty their work. Remember, Mitsubishi gives us warranties on the cars that THEY built, not the ones that we modify.
Be smart about your mods and really think about how far you want to go and to what expense. This doesn't just apply to mitsubishi, it applies to all manufacturers. Anyways, hoped that helped a little.

The problem is people who take their vehicle in 6 times for major tranny work from slamming gears when racing. Their absolute abuse and intentional damage causes the dealers to become cynical and more defensive on warranty. The dealer is responsible to the manufacturer for all warranty claims and can lose their franchise if they stretch too far. So, until the dishonest owners are weeded out it will be a problem. Like others said though, if you find a dealer willing to work with you that appreciates your business you shouldn't have any trouble.
The cases are not isolated. There is a problem with mitsu's warranty claims, and customer service. But it very's dealer to dealer. we really need to post a big thing on which dearler are good and which are bad. It is a problem that needs addressed in the future. You can't make a high maintnence, super biatch and not support it.

Seriously, many of those that post about having warranty issues are the same people that either race or modify their Evos. Stay away from the drag strips and mods and you probably won't have any problems. If you go the the SVT Cobra web sites they ***** about the same issue and it's the same story, modified or raced Cobras. It suprising that people think this is a Mitsu only issue. It isn't.
Mitsu is not the only one's with bad warranty service. My last car was a VW Passat 1.8T. Thank God that i really didn't have many problems with the car because VW is notorious for not honoring warranty work. They come up with any possible reason to avoid warrany work.
I also don't agree with the last post. Lets face it.....the Evo is a performance car!!!! Yes some people do abuse the hell out of them but I also know of some people who drive hard but don't abuse them and are having problems with the car anyway. Even the sales guy at the dealer who sold me the car said that this car was meant to drive hard.

I've had my car in for warranty service.. I am fortunate to have a great dealership, but I've had very few problems, and when I did have a problem, they honored it without any issues.. They know my car is modified, but are also aware that the car is not abused and have never questioned anything I've brought it in for.
It really is 99% dealership.. Big tag repair items can get scrutinized by mitsubishi motors directly, but its rare if the dealership is working with you as a customer.
Also, its important to point out what everyone else has overwhelmingly commented on.. This website is an 'artificial population' that is, it does not reflect a majority of the car's ownerbase, but a fairly informed, and modification inclined group of people. Some of who abuse their cars, and expect warranty service to cover it..
How many Evo8 members are here? Out of how many thousand cars manufactured (and sold) you are only hearing our perspective from our personal experiences.. Some are good, and some are bad.. However they ALL are not the whole story and don't reflect any such majority. It turns out that 80% of the Evo's sold, are probably not modified, and most likely rarely abused.. and likely not having many of the issues that you see people complain about.
Sometimes a very vocal minority can appear to be a majority.. so you really should take everything you read about online (not just here) with a bit of cynicism and do your research.

Thanks for all the great responces guys. I'm sure you can all appreciate where I'm coming from. I'll be getting rid of a paid-off 97 Z28 that I have had virtually no problems with and buying a $30k new car. When I hear these kinds of posts it makes me wonder and question myself. Believe me I hate questioning the purchase of the EVO, because ever since my test drive a few months ago I can't stop thinking about it. I will still pull the trigger in a few weeks, I just thought I would through the question out there.
By the way, for all you in SoCal, I hear HB Mitsu is real good for warranty work with or without mods. I believe the techs name is Josh?

If your a jerk, they'll be a ***** to you. When I had my 7th gen celica, the toyota dealership i went to was pretty cool. I had that car lowered, they had to jack it up to put on the lift no biggie to them. They did everything i asked them to do, change frozen caliper, belt tensioner... no excuses. Then again half of the mechanic and service manager are my friends
