Help! Rear-ended but i want JDM rear!
Hey guys,
I was rear-ended at a stop light the other day by a nissan altima. It wasnt a violent impact or anything. My bumper is scratched up pretty bad and is now there is a gap between my right rear taillight and the bumper. Maybe bent brackets? I really want the JDM rear bumper and i dont want to put the refinished stocker back on there. Im sure a body shop would rather refinish the bumper since they will be making more money. But the jdm bumpers come painted from the factory and will match better than the body shop could do anyway. What would you guys do in my situation? I would be happy if the insurance adjuster gave me a check to cover the new bumper but then i have the issue of more damage when i pull it off and trouble getting it to line up. Thats where the body shop would help. Not sure how to play my cards here. Thanks guys
Fred

The body shop will most likely say to this...at least they did when i tried it in the same situation...they used the excuse that the crash bar would have to be modified to fit the jdm bumper....but i had already tricked them into getting me a ETS 3.5" Intercooler when the one i had was stock and also got them to order me a dry carbon hood instead of the wet hood i originally had...so i wasnt willing to press on the bumper too much haha
Both times I had a fender bender. I took it to a shop, had them look at it, go over it and find all the damage (which they didn't do well last time finding axle and frame damage, they didn't want to put frame damage down because the insurance might total the car and they wouldn't get the work). Then, Ask for a claims adjuster from the other persons insurance to comeout and have them look at it and make sure there is no damage to frame and whatnot. Then, they write you a check. Spend the money on JDM and put on yourself. I didn't have to pay the shop to do an estimate on it cause they thought they would be doing the repair work.

if i was you i would get a stock bumper again......as u see u might need that crash beam there!! jdm bumper is really nice dont get me wrong but for rear ending problems i would rather have somethin to protect me, a material can always be replaced but ur injuries can be avoid.......i went usdm bumper with a apr difuser and it looks sick....i think better than jdm ...(personal opinion)

If you are cool with the body shop then getting a JDM rear should be no problem. Just get the demonworks bar for bumper support. I bought one but I'm not sure if I'm even going to bother using it.
u wasting more money on pointless items. LOL its your MO. haaaa. you dont need to bar save the weight i digged mine awhile ago. on top of that you can look at my EXTENSIVE GUIDE on how to install a jdm rear complete with pics and all very detailed and in the how to section

I like the fact that a 5 mph collision won't cave in the bumper. The weight saved isn't worth an insurance company not paying a claim out because you removed a safety feature or more damage done then would've happened had the bar been there.
I look at it like playing russian roulette. To each his own I suppose.

If the bumper isn't destoryed I doubt they'd replace it, but try your luck. Try to sweet talk the adjuster a bit, they aren't all douches .
I think Driveline Motoring is the best place to get it.

When I was rear ended the body shop just had me get all of the parts I wanted for the repairs out of my own pocket. When everything was completed they cut me a check for the parts. They didn't even hesitate to install what I wanted. This was including a tubular fabbed bumper brace since the factory crash bar was damaged.
EDIT: I see you live in Orange County. PM where about you live and I can give the name of the body shop that did the work for me. I can give you the name and the number of the guy I worked with. He was really cool and helped me with my parents and my girlfriends car. Very good shop to deal with.

I see that you're located in Orange County. Go to Huntington Mitsubishi dealership and ask for Sam. He will work it out for ya to get a JDM rear bumper and that facility is also a body shop. I highly recommend taking this into consideration.
