used EVO with MODS in it

I bought a used EVO with aftermarket parts in it. It had a set of hks 272 cams, stock valves and stock cam gears, full 3" turboback, and Vishu Xede piggyback (which has been discontinued) and is running at 21 PSI. Idk what the hell the previous owners set up was going for but anyone have any clues? If i take off the Vishnu piggyback would it run stock (stock psi as well)? I have no idea how Vishu Xedes worked before. Would i need to get aftermarket cam gears or valve springs for a real tune and to withstand the camshafts? Thanks. Any help would be appreciated

If you take the piggy back off, it will run the stock map and boost (if there is NO MBC or EBC). No valvetrain or cam gears are needed. But you will need a tune for those parts to be of any use.

But aftermarket cam gears would help increase the timing more or less to get the most power if done correctly by a tuner right?

Sorry dont know much, but thats why im asking to get a sure answer.

I think your best bet would be to find a really good tuner and go from there. Find out all the mods you have and make a list and a good tuner should be able to get that car running well, even on a stock ECU.

Talk to your tuner first, but cam gears may be recommended for an VIII with 272's.

I guess it depends on how smooth it idles and how much a rough idle bothers you though.

+1 on talking with a tuner.

Cams should be fine without cam gears, but it will just have a lopey idle. I loved the way my VIII sounded with 272s. You should try to see if there is some sort of MBC or EBC to help you hold boost and get a tune. You'll be all set.

I can give some advice. The cam gears really should have been replaced at the same time as the camshafts. You should consider getting new cam gears. Maybe replace the camshaft as well if there is a ton of miles on them.

My brother has a 2003 evo 8 that was modded and dyno tuned by Shiv at Vishnu back in 2004. It was rock solid and he drove it that way for six years. It ran excellent with the Vishnu piggyback with a 91/100 octane dual map. Recently the Vishnu piggyback was removed and the car was retuned using the stock ECU.

The stock ECU is what you want to use now. Technology has improved a lot since the evo 8 first came out and you no longer need to use a piggyback. You can have a dual map with the stock ECU as well.

Are there any shops near you that tune Evos? If you have the budget, my advice is to add new cam gears, camshaft, intake, evo 9 BOV, and get a tune.

How many miles are on the car? Is the suspension in good shape?

Pics?
