MAP-ECU... Anyone hear of it yet?
MAP-ECU... Anyone hear of it yet?

I just came across this product while doing a search for something. It looks very interesting, what caught my eye was although it is a piggyback, its design allows you to remove the MAF unit and replace it with a MAP sensor. (I know its not a new thing, but its features allow you to auto-map the existing sensor before you remove it)
It is also capable of logging a 5v wideband O2 input from a UEGO controller.
Since I've never seen any mention of it anywhere on the site I was wondering if anyone has tried the device, and had any experiences with it. Its a bit pricey for something that is essentially very similar to the EManage, but it does have some interesting features that I was specifically looking for.
Oh.. And Merry XMas..

So far, most of the piggyback solutions don't actually offer much in the way of timing adjustment. However, you are right about it in the price range.. items in that price range do appear to have some sort of timing adjustment.
Its true value is in the ability to remove the MAF sensor as a restriction.. The comparable products would be the XEDE (if they offer a MAP upgrade instead of just saying 'it can be done') or the Apexi PowerFC who's disadvantage is their tuning tools are not available to the end user. And complete standalones which are significantly more expensive and loses the ability to have OBD-II compliance (at this time).

$890 or so, came across the site selling it before I found the site that made it..

When it comes to ecu's, the first place I always ask is Technosquare. If you are in Malibu, they're a hop and skip from you in Torrance. Howard and Richie build Evo motors for Ryss Millen and they were recently in Super Street throwing a stroker kit in an Evo.
Tadashi is the Electronics guru there and might shed some light on this stuff. Keep in mind he sells Techtom tuning products (chip flash stuff) but he travels quite a bit and most likely has seen this product. http://www.technosquareinc.com/dealer.htm
His stuff may compete, but he has always been straight up with me. Just a thought... .
Thanks for the info.. Actually, I'm not from Cali, from Long Island.. I got the Nickname because I have a 78 Malibu race car.. HOWEVER, I've spent some time in SoCal, Torrence specifically so I actually knew where you were talking about..LOL
Anyway, I've been in contact with them before because I was researching the Techtom software/flasher... I saw they had some interesting reworked replacement CPU's.
Hmm.. This all started as a ponderance and a desire to swap out the MAF sensor with something less prone to glitching and being a restriction.
I REALLY like the link that JustDSM posted, but was trying to grasp how it worked.. Then it dawned on me that it supplies the signals in place of the ones missing when you disconnect the MAF.
Now, their's no indication that it would work with our cars, but it should once its calibrated. I was trying to get a sense of how it would hook up with the S-AFC.. Then I found that they sell the components seperately.
What that means is you can pick up the appropriate sized sensor, and wiring harness, and essentially use that on a different product, (The XEDE for example)
Oh well.. this ends up being research at least.
