Pump going bad in my Double Pumper?

Last week I was driving on the highway going up a slight hill doing the speed limit. All the sudden the car starts to break up a little and I notice my fuel pressure gauge isn't normal. It gets worse and I had to pull over and the car finally died. It was only showing 23psi when it died. My gas gauge showed 1/4 of a tank. I just so happen to have a 5 gallon can of E85 in the trunk so I poured that in the tank. After that, the car started and I had normal fuel pressure again. I haven't had the problem since but I've also kept a full tank.

I'm wondering if thats a sign of one fuel pump going bad? When one pump goes bad, how does the gas flow? Does it back flow through the bad pump causing lower fuel pressure?

The fuel pumps are probably 5 years old so I'm thinking about replacing both.

Quite possible. Or the gas gauge isn't reading right.

Yea 5 years on walbros is alot haha... or ive read here that the double pumpers dont do well when they are at or under a 1/4 tank. I guess they fight each other for volume.

Good to know. A week before I ran the tank to almost empty with no issues. After filling the tank with the 5 gallon can, I used another 7 gallons at the pump to fill it up. So that would make it 12 gallons I added to the tank. The stock tank is 14 gallons so I don't think I was out of fuel.

Anyone else had a pump go out on a Double Pumper?

Looks like I'll be replacing them this week.

Thanks!

Also, what pumps does the Double Pumper take? GSS340 or GSS342? I know they are modified with the plunger pushed in at the top. I may just order them from Buschur but I happen to have 2 brand new GSS342 pumps with socks.

Thanks. After looking around looks like maybe they use GSS340.

Went ahead and ordered 2 new pumps from Buschur which included the tubes / socks. Price was very fair and Nick got me taken care of.

David sad older doubles don't even have the pressure mod done to the pumps unless when you order them you tell em your running e85 so I'm betting yours weren't modified just like josh's pretty sure aren't either.

I'll check that when I take out the old pumps. I haven't had time to do anything on the car with all the house projects going on.
