My Evolution nightmare?
...just saying because I recently had the same issue. The tie bars might get in your way a bit, but if you fool around with the heatshield you can get it off w/o removing anything. Though the stock downpipe has a couple different heatshields on it, so try to get off as much as you can lol
Get under that car and rip that mother off

I had pretty much same thing happen within the first week of ownership. I trusted the dealers inspection on a 2006 SE but within two weeks I was replacing pads and clutch. In my case, I chalk it up to being impatient (didn't look long enough/didn't get my own inspection), a little lazy (didn't want to look for very long) and I dealt with a dishonest dealer.
I had control of the first two so I take responsibility for the third happening. Cost me a few grand (had to fix/replace a couple other things too) but now I have a great car. I don't think I'd ever get rid of a car due to necessary repairs (unless it was totaled) or the possibility of future repairs. Having car repair money always set aside makes that decision easier though.

And, my friend recently told me that the 6 speed in an MR is not going to last me, he said it will go out and when it does I'll have to spend about 4000 for a new transmission. I'm just really freaked out about all the costs adding up. With new tires, my car will be in good shape, everything will be tip top. But, if the transmission goes out I'm going to be in big trouble since this is my daily driver. I just don't know how worried I should be about that?
Sorry to say it, but I have to agree..
From what I can tell you are either not mechanically inclined or are one of those people who talk about cars and don't really know all that much because they are not willing to invest the time in learning about them. This isn't good and what is referred to sometimes as a "tool". I'm not saying you're a tool because you sound like a nice guy, but just like someone who isn't willing to haggle for a better deal and tends to overpay for things they shouldn't. Pretty much everything you have listed you over paid for (especially the car), but hey if you have the money you might as well spend it I guess
.
Goodluck to you OP.

A word of advice learn how to do the simple stuff on this car yourself fast or you will pay out the ***. Learn who supplies what at a decent price too. Another word of advice never take the car to the dealer or trust anything they say.
Its like a girl who you know you want to hump in the end theres consequences that you figure out shes just not worth it and is too high maintennce. Keep the car but remember save your money and protect your investment. If you dont know how to work on a evo ask someone on here who does. I already made video of changing my evo fluids on the drivetrain. Another guy whos how to swap out camshafts on the car. Perhaps there is an exhaust video or how do to the brakes. One other guy shows how to swap out a transfercase too. I wouldnt do that myself though because I dont have a lift or tools. Try to find someone who does it would help out alot.

Funny I bought my Evo 8 with 80k on it and the dealership said they had just replaced the clutch and brakes. They had, but the car spun a rod bearing in the first week I had it. $6600 after paying $17000 a week earlier. I've put 10k miles on the the car so far and about $2200 in tuning. I'd do it all over again. This car is cheap to tune and repair. Not to mention easy for the novice to work on by themselves. This car is stupid fun to drive. Seems like you got gang raped initially on the purchase price but now that you have it might as well enjoy it.
I know KBB sucks but it still says retail on my car is 27,610. The 28,000 included taxes and all associated fees. Keep in mind that taxes are really really high in my state. For example, I think taxes were over 2000 and I know the registration was 300 cause I just paid it recently.
Ok, I think I figured this out: The sticker was around 25,000 I think, and taxes here are 8.25 sales tax, licensing was about 200, registration was 300, title was one month payment, and taxes were 2062.00. So, that's how I got to 28,000 out the door. Retail is 27,610 so I thought 25,000 was a good price for the car but I guess I got screwed. You guys are right though, I'll just enjoy it now that I have it! : )

OP, 2 weeks ago a bought a evo 9, 2006, 56k, turo timer, slotted rotors, lowered on gtworks springs. the calipers are not faded and very little peeling, everything is in excellent condition. I got it for 23.6k OTD and my sales tax is 7.0. I have had a few friends look and drive it and they all have had evos and they said it drove better then any of theres then they got theres. Your have to look around more for prices and haggle with people when you buy cars. you can usually get it down 5-15% depending.
#1 thing you must know about this car is it is somewhat costly to maintain. you in all reality as everyone else said overpaid nasty on this car. it is a misfortune that you had to get all this stuff done right after you bought her, but i would think you should be good for a while. in the mean time start looking for a shop that works on Evos, you'll get whatever service done at a fraction of the cost of a dealership. also just remember that old saying " you gotta pay to play"
Thanks again for all the info and great responses. I really appreciate all the advice everyone! I definitely have not been taking it to the stealership for service! Not after what they pulled on me with the brakes! The clutch was stock and it was replaced with an ACT Extreme 3200lb. How do you remove the heat shield off the down pipe? Does it just unbolt or is it welded on? Thank you again!
^^^ It's not bolted or welded on as far as i could see. There's a few of them along the length of the entire OEM downpipe; and they seem to be glued on actually lol One day I was driving along and suddenly experienced this awful rattle from underneath the car. So I drove it home and got underneath to find pieces of heatshield falling off it; was able to wrestle two of them off by hand. And now there's even another piece rattling, but not as bad
