Good to know about the oil thermostat too BTW, I'll be sure to drain the oil when it's hot rather than sometimes doing it when it's just warm.

I guess I am going to start warming the evo up a bit befor doing oil changes. I have always done it before driving thinking that most of it would be settled toward to bottom anyway.

I did not know about the oil thermostat.

I'm not necessarily recommending draining oil when the engine is hot although I sometimes do this. It is a good way to get burned. However, the OP seemed to want to know how to get more oil out of his engine.

If changing oil with the engine hot, wear gloves, and I don't mean rubber gloves but something thicker. And be prepared to yank them off before the heat soaks through if they get oil soaked.

I wasn't suggesting that, but ok... It was just in reference to the oil thermostat/switch.

You can change it as hot as you want if you rock the fumoto valve. You lose the magnetic plug, but thats what the filter is for anyway. I love mine. Tool-less oil changes rule.

Change the oil cold so you drain the most out.

I've got one of those The hardest part is removing the oil filter without getting any on your hands.

It does get a bit cold down here in Florida during the winter, but usually not anywhere near freezing. I wonder what the lowest recommended temp is to run the eliminator?

I drain the oil, then refill with2.5 qtrs of cheap oil and let it idle for a min or 2 and then drain again. This helps circulate the old oil, not run the motor dry and get most of the old crap out. Drain and refill with the quality oil of your choice. Now I can check the oil a few hundred miles later and yep its clean--just like I want it. Didn't think about the thermostat--but I change hot anyway--good consideration.
