Differemce betweem stock evo 8 wing and copy?

Whatsup evo members? I have a questiok and hopefully somebody can shine some light. There is this guy selling a 06 stock oem evo 8 wing for a hundred. Says its black on sides and carbon fiber on top. How can you tell the difference between a stock oem wing compared to a copy out of fiberglass oem wing? Does the stock have carbon fiber on the top? Please help shine the light and signs to look for. Thanks for your time

If it's an 06 wing then it's evo ix, not evo viii. They stopped making 8's in 2005. Both evo viii and ix wings have carbon fiber on the top of them. However, the viii wings carbon fiber fades if its constantly beaten by the sunlight. Over time it will start to have white blotches and will look like crap.

ix = 9
viii = 8

That's not the defining difference...

The difference is that the uprights of the 8 wing are carbon, while the 9s are regular abs. You should be able to tell by looking on the inside of the uprights for carbon. Also, the centers are filled on the 8s and hollow on the 9s

His words says evo viii wing off an 06 evo. He mentioned that it needs to be recleared but now u said the ev8 stopped in 05 lol. So does oem copys of the wing not have cf?!

In same post he got oz lancer parts, hmm.

Ps im not concerned with the difference between 8 and 9s

Concerned with the stock wing compared to a copy wing.

I know it's not. I'm just stating that over time the viii wing get's destroyed if the car is constantly parked in sunlight. Since the OP said it needs to be recleared, there's a good chance it's an viii wing but why someone would take off a ix wing and put on an viii wing is beyond me.

He may of had an VIII wing on his IX. Don't think I have ever seen replicas of the VIII/IX wings. Not saying they don't exist

The VII's have replica wings

Some people want the sick carbon y0! Also, a couple of people have claimed that the hollow ix wing cracks in half at high speeds. I've been on plenty of 5th gear tracks and haven't had a problem.

OP you weren't clear that it was a 8 wing coming of a 9, but nonetheless the description that I gave is pretty much all you have to go by.

this is my 2005 evo 8 wing. the inner and outter sides of the wing are also carbon fiber. the evo 9 is not. i sanded mine down so u can see that its complete carbon fiber. u can tell by looking at the inner sides of the wing on the evo 9 to see that the sides are not carbon fiber.

Cause it is stronger and full CF if you want that look.

I had my VIII wing replaced in 05 due to fading and it has not faded one bit since. My car has never seen a garage

Only the top part of the wing that goes across the trunk is carbon fiber on the 9 wing, and this inside of the wing will be colored the same as the car unlike the 8 wing.

Look over the wing really carefully. If it looks like it's a high quality piece, buy it. I haven't seen any copies of OEM Evo 8 or 9 wings, so if it's high quality I'd assume it's OEM Mitsu stuff. If it's crappy quality, then it's a knock-off.

Reclearing means putting new clear coat on it. A paint shop can take care of that for you.

u gotta sand it down with 2000 and 1400 grit sand paper. it takes forever because u can't sand it with heavier grit like on metal or u will dmg the carbon fiber. pretty much sand all clear coat off and u can reapply new clear
