Overboost

Well I just picked up an evo and am getting an overboost code. and a fuel cut around 5500. A tuning shop told me it was probably moded and tuned and then put back to stock without retuning. On the stock gauges its going on the 1.5 bar. My question is that if I buy a mbc can I safely just turn it down and run lower boost until until I have time to actually get it tuned?

What mods are done to it? If it was put back to stock and has the stock wga and turbo and you are getting an overboost code installing a mbc will not allow you to turn the boost down if its running on the stock wg pressure. What it probably is is the "boost pill" that is suppose to be in the stock lines is not there and it is boosting more than it should be. They are usually forgotten about or lost when putting a car back to stock to sell. Check your lines around the solenoid to see if it is installed and do some searching on here for info on the boost pill theurs plenty of threads about it.

Stock turbo and wastegate. It might be removed, cant check because im here for work and have no tools. I just have not been driving. So if I get a mbc this cant lower the boost because the pill is gone?

Not having the boost pill would cause you to boost at WG pressure, not overboost.
