Bad Crankshaft Sensor?

well i was driving down the road it started up fine. I was at 2,500 rpm going 40mph and the car just shut off. while rolling i tried clutch starting it didnt even try starting. when i got to a stop it tried starting it. It just kept on cranking. Didnt fire not even once. I checked the CEL.. it said, "Crankshaft Position Sensor Circuit" it just keeps cranking and does nothing else.

should i replace the whole sensor?

I would inspect it first and see if its damaged. Have you done a timing belt change? Mileage?

timing belt was done at 60k

i have 72k on it now

well to look at it i need to take the timing belt off ect.. was trying to avoid that. just hoping some could think of somthing stupid. The cam angle sensor code didnt come up and it that is bad it would cough or start for a second then stall out i thought

You're gonna have to change it out, no other way around it. I've had this problem before, and I kept trying to start the car only to burn out the starter.

I about to do my timing belt and do you think it's a good idea to change this sensor as preventive maintenance?

Yeah while you have the belt off, change that along with the water pump.

yea u need change it out! it happened it me bro. make sure the crank bolt it tightened all the way... don't take any shortcuts. you basically have to take all the same crap off that you had to during the timing job

Doing a timing job, you will have an unimpeded view of this sensor. So, if you see frayed wires or something, yeah. Otherwise, in my opinion, no.
