OEM floor mat hook

I feel stupid for asking but how the hell do you install the oem floor mat hook? I never had one since I owned the car and I'm sick of having a zip tie hold it in place because its slowly tearing my carpet apart. I have never seen a floor mat hook like this before since the one in my daily driver and my previous cars are just screwed into place. Can anyone post a pic of how it should look installed? Where on the carpet is the hook supposed to clamp down?

Don't bother with the stock hook it eventually rips the carpet too. Mine has torn so much that the hook is loose enouggh that the mat comes off of it.

For those wanting to use it, it slips through two holes already made in the carpet and snaps on the back side. You basically unsnap the hook, slip the bottom through the front hole, fish it through the back hole, then snap it back together. Mine is a 2005 and hasn't ripped yet but I'm not holding my breath

Another option is Velcro. The carpeting in our cars is such that Velcro sticks to it like the proverbial glue. I'm talking a solid bond. One can epoxy the Vecro to the back of a floormat - problem solved. If you have trouble locating quality Velcro, stop by your local car audio installer and ask to buy a little. You really don't need much of the stuff to get the job done.

Let me know if you guys still need a pic. I can probably post one later today.

Tagging this thread for the Velcro idea. I just dropped $90 on MR mats, I'm not trying to have issues.

I had the same problem, I think the carpet hook is a major flaw since my floor mats would skid around while I'm driving like salmon swimming upstream. I just went with heavier rubber all season mats from Michelin. They work like a charm and don't move at all when I'm on the clutch.

I think you're better off not using the hook at all frankly, as all it seems to do is cause problems.

That said... I did see a metal piece that was commercially fabbed by someone that looked the ticket. I'll see if I can't find it just now...

This isn't what I saw previously, but these seem intriguing?

Honestly the biggest problem with the hook is that there was only 1. My 09 Corolla has 2 and it is stuck like glue. If they went to a dual hook setup it would have been better and lasted longer.

Omg that's going to the extremes. If you ever needed to vacuum your car you would have to drill out the rivets lol
