hole in the block

Soon to be wife got a evo 8. Bought it from her sister who blew a hole in the block. Unsure of the mods but she claimed it had over 400 at the wheels. I don't know anything about these cars so if some of you can point me in the right direction It would be appreciated.

Plan to keep everything the same. Stock displacement, head, cams, etc. But definitely want to go with forged internals that will last and take a ton of abuse. What company(s) do you recommend for block, pistons, rods etc.

Thanks

New 4g63 core will be expensive, just for the bare bottom end. Will be cheaper to buy a 4g64 core and build a Long rod 2.1. Look into MAPerformance for some block options.

My car is currently getting a built 2.0 through http://www.cbrdspeedfactory.com/ Check em out and let me know if you have any questions. Keep in mind that the cheaper route is not always the better route.

did the mitsubishi eclipse come with the 4g63? have done a few searches and alot come up with that motor for an eclipse. if so what years came with it and what are the differences? im not looking to go for a cheap build but i dont see a reason on buying a new bare block with no internals when i can easily find a used complete engine, tear it down and rebuild it with the parts i choose.

Yes, some Eclipses back when had 4G63 motors. Won't work - lot's changes since then, like which way the engine points.

The gst and gsx model eclipses and the eagle talon tsi model came with 4g63 motors from early 90s to 99. Gst being fwd and gsx awd. The talon also had a fwd and awd variation. There is a lot of variation between the evo 8 4g and the earlier 4g, although lots of dsm'ers like to claim they have the same motor there are enough differences to make them different. The earlier evo motors like the 1,2, and 3 and maybe the 4th gen(notsure) are the same and very similiar.

The main difference as already stated is the engine orientation compared to the older 4g. The engine was rotated 180* and the timing belt is on the opossite side. There are also alot of smaller differences in the internals. For example the cams are hollow on evo 4g motors for less inertia and rotational loss. The valves are also made of a different material and are lighter. They even went as far as to make the valve cover out of a magnesium alloy to lighten it and lower the center of gravity or the engine.

There's also many different turbos that came on the different models of evos and eclipses, and the turbo on the 8s actually spins the reverse of what the earlier 4gs did.

There's tons of info on the web about the differences of all the motors you just have to look for it.

Sslater88,

Getting a block might be difficult, but good luck. Just make sure it's a 4G63 from and evo and not a dsm.

Keep an eye on the used parts forum. Usually a stock block comes up now and then. I got lucky and picked one up for my build.
