Evo VIII/IX SSL/MR
I suppose it depends on what you're used to, familiar with, and have experienced as far as quality of materials. If one were to think seats from an '80s GM are high quality...then I'd say said individual would feel like the leather in SSL Evos is the ****.
I had a leather bmw 328is before, I guess the leather was thicker in the bmw, but seriously theres nothing wrong with the leather in the evo, all leather wears out and you can just get it reupholstered. Ive just had the car for like 7 years now so yea it's starting to wear. Bout the same in the bmw too though...

I think you are missing the point, not everyone thinks the leather is as bad as you claim it is, and you probably don't even own an ssl so I think you are just a jealous hater.
Alright, I mostly wanted to see if there was any extremely obvious drawbacks in one of the models -- it appears not
From reading up on the differences between the models, it kinda seems like this:
RS If you want a platform that can make it around a track as quickly as possible.
SSL If you want a car that your friends won't ***** about having to take a ride in. (It gives the evo some... class, I suppose)
MR If... and this is where I'm confused. The MR seems to sit somewhere in the middle. To me the MR looks the coolest with it's "sonic the hedgehog styling" (which is sadly one of the more major reasons for me wanting the car. Yes, I am a fashion *****
)
In all honesty, there are a few reasons I'm getting an evo. First, I want grin uncontrollably when I accelerate. Secondly, I love the way the way evo IX and VIII's look. Third, I do a lot of snowboarding and mountain biking so having an awd vehicle that I can comfortably take snowboarding with me is a huge plus. And fourth on the list is that it's something that I can tune on the side as a hobby and occasionally take to a track to have fun with.
This all coupled with the fact that I'm specifically looking for a rally red evo has made me decide to pick up an SSL. I have not been able to find a single rally red 2006 MR -- what gives?

I think it just may have been one of the rarer colors of the MR.

Goodluck shopping, if you get a good condition car you will love it, if you get a bad one youll hate it till its fixed. Hope to see pics of a happy new evo owner, if you take good care of the evo it will not fail to meet your expectations.
Its simply cuz they're cheaper, I had the dealer change the clutch and properly fix the transfer case seal leak at the driveshaft which was not the seal itself as commonly believed, Ive seen some silly write ups about sanding it or something, it was the spring that puts tension on the seal, cuz the seal was new done by the dealer with clutch. You guys don't always properly service your cars, I've seen enough bs on my friends 2006 evo 9 GSR that was used modified. Usually they want to sell it cuz its crapping out.
