My awesome custom faded voltex type 5 wing....

Bought this wing from driveline little over a year ago. Car has been garage kept since day one. I'm really dissapointed that it is fading like no tomorrow. I really don't want to take the rivets out to re clear the wing, but it seems like that's the only choice I have cuz if I re clear everything without taking the rivets out, the clear will eventually crack under vibrations etc. I'm not confident enough to have the rivets drilled out. I just wanted to weigh out the options before letting professional do it.

Meanwhile I have been sending pm's and e-mail to driveline but no response. At least let me know what's up... I've got my carbon fiber trunk and hood 4 1/2 years ago and still looked like brand new... not sure if I had a bad batch from voltex or what, my friend also bought a voltex wing and hes afraid that its going to end up like mine somehow. I paid top dollar for it and I expect the quality is there at least.... don't know if I'm buying voltex again....:

OH... don't tell me that I should or shouldn't buy a voltex wing to begin with. go kick rocks before even thinking about flaming.. seriously

Notice that my '$700' trunk still holding up after 4 1/2 years..

Custom faded all right. Heard that in a movie somewhere

Wonder if Voltex applied a UV clear coat or was it just the gel coat finish?

Did you ever apply a wax or paint sealant to it?

GL / Peace

I think its just a gel coat. I waxed it before putting it on. Only the top side is faded. bottom and sides are fine. Maybe I should flip it around

I have come to realize that no matter the manufacturer, quality, JDM, cheapo knock offs...etc.

There is no UV protection on any of the carbon pieces I have seen. I have a Ralliart set hood/trunk, and I detail the crap out of my car WEEKLY...and I have started to notice the hazing....
Getting them re cleared soon though. GL.

^^^Interesting. I was under the impression the true JDM carbon pieces were cleared. Ive got a new VIS CF hood & will be applying a paint sealant to it

Wonder if some light wet sanding w/ fine paper will clear the haze (start w/ 1000 / 2500/ 3000) Just a thought

You're probably right about the uv protection. but I am assuming that the voltex wing does not have a clear coat on it, just a gel coat. My cheapo trunk came with clear coat lasts over 4 years now. Isn't gel coating is more PITA and expensive?

I've never had/seen any cf that came with a uv protected clear coat. Just about all of them are gel coated. Even high quality pieces like seibon and vis. My seibon double sided cf trunk faded on the inside lol the part that never sees the sun and I had to get it recleared.

Op drilling out rivets is not hard at all as long as you take it slow. You will want to get a small bit that almost fits in the center hole and be careful when its almost through as sometimes the head of the rivet will break free and spin with the bit digging into the cf. I have done that before and its not good.

I’m worried about all my cf fading. I keep my evo in the garage every day/night unless i take it out some ware for the night.
ITs got a VIS hood, REXSPEED lips, CF-spec vortex generator, and cf badges. Blahh it would look like junk if it sat out in the sun daily
