Alright, so I'm not new to this forum, and I'm not new to DSMs. I used to have a couple of 92 talon tsi awds. and I have a different account on here, but I don't remember the email for it and I can't seem to get it to work at all, I can view, but I can't post. So I gave up today and just made a new account.
anyways, so I just went through a divorce and picked up what I've always wanted, and EVO of course. It's an '03 Evo VIII with 69,000 miles. I'm pretty excited to own it. Well the previous owner just had the throttle body serviced last week for some reason, and the mechanic (he's german, I live in Germany, I'm military) told him he was going to need to replace the throttle body soon. It's a Works throttle body, only other mod on the car is a Works exhuast. Random set of mods I know. But I think the code was a P0507, I know it said idle was high. Which is weird because on a cold start, it idles really low, like 500-600 rpms. and it's only making .7 bar (about 10psi) right now, so obviously the car feels sluggish. Nothing like what a stock Evo should feel like.
So I'm thinking the German Mechanic basically screwed with the throttle body pretty bad, and I'm just going to replace it with a stocker with new gaskets and seals. I'm pretty sure it's obvious the car has a boost leak since it's only making roughtly 10psi. I'm going tomorrow to compression test it and boost leak test it.
Anybody else's opinion and advice would be greatly appreciated.
I used to own a '05 Lancer Ralliart, so I've been around these forums for a long time. Mostly just ghosting though.

The throttle body seals are supposedly a hotbed for boost leaks? Not sure why he'd suggest you'll need a new one soon? I wasn't really aware that they were "wear items" so to speak...
Anyway... boost leak test it and get back to us...
P0507 just means that your ECU thinks your engine speed is idling too high. This can be caused by a myriad of things, including an improperly setup TB.

Yea, gonna check it all out tomorrow at the auto hobby shop on base. It's really irritating to only be making 10psi. Slowest Evo ever, lol.

Could be a few things -
Boost leak
Boost controller removed and no new boost controller put in so it's running wastegate pressure (verify this based on vacuum hose configuration i.e. is the wastegate hose going straight to intake without going to the stock 3 port...at least I think that's the stock configuration but it's been a while)?
Ecu boost set super low via tune.
When I got my Evo it would only boost 11-12PSI because the previous owner had removed his boost controller and never hooked back up the stock boost controller. Yes...it was VERY slow.

He has an aftermarket TB, so I don't think it would be the seals that tend to fail on the stock TB.Originally Posted by ProPilot04

Is that TB basically similar to stock? If not, I would look at putting a stock one on.
It could be a problem with the IAC (idle air control) not sure if the euro cars have the same problems as the ones here in the states.
It's an american spec evo, not euro spec. I'm military, so I made sure to buy one that i can bring back to the states.
The german mechanic serviced it, I think he messed it up. I just bought a stock throttle body from another member on here. Gonna try it out.

Best decision you could have made. ^^ You might have to adjust the BISS on the stock TB. But that's pretty painless. Checking the IAC is pretty simple, also.
Yea, I was trying to figure out why the hell someone would upgrade the throttle body on an evo anyways. It's freaking stock. Doesn't do a damn thing. It's idle is messed up and boost leaking like crazy. Worst idea to put an aftermarket throttle body on a stock turbo car. It's pressurized piping! lmao!
