Cracked T-Case

I got my Clutch+Flywheel installed at a shop my friend referred to me, because I didn't have any of the tools and time to install it myself. Well they got the clutch and flywheel in and while they were putting back on the T-Case, the bolts didn't go on tight and they found out that the T-Case was cracked and that it would have to be replaced. All in all I've spent about 1400 for install and parts for it and I found out a new T-Case can cost about 1000, sad life.

Any ideas about how it got cracked? This doesn't sound like a common occurrence.

I have seen one that was cracked because they didnt line it back up and tightened the bolts. They probably cracked it putting it back on.

I think a NEW T-case is like 2k, I'm sure you mean for a used one. Where is it cracked? If its cracked by the threads or at at a mounting tab its probably from them, think about it, why didn't they notice it when they took it apart? Yea sometimes you don't analyze things when taking things apart you just want to get ot apart but I've seen way too many shops that have messed up something and told the customer it was already broke or something. Put up pics if you can

was it making any weird whinning noises proir to you taking it to that shop? I would imagine if the t-case was cracked prior to u taking it to that shop you would have at least felt some sort of vibrations or noise. I'm not trying to stir up the hornets nest but I'd be wondering if it was the shop that fe'd up your transfer case and are now trying to say the **** was like that before. 2k for a new transfer case? might aswell call maperformance and get a beast mode transfer case with the upgraded lsd. Either way, good luck with everything
