best intake for evo IX
This is key.
FWIW though... for the OP, if you're looking for something fun to do, you can always convert your airbox to an open cone filter with a MAF adapter. The gains are minimal at best, but the sound is much nicer.
I'm running a LICP, UICP, TBE, DW301, MBC, and a cone filter because the general consensus was that the intake pipe would do more harm than good with the idling.

AMSOil is the best dry one according to the same dyno test under discussion if you don't want to futz with an oil soaked cleaning PITA (lazy like me)
.
I just did this research, links to the filter and the MAF Sensor Adaptor you need are in my thread about help with mod list for first tune.
Things to know.
1. Remove the MAF Sensor/airbox from the intake pipe with a single screw loosening the hose clamp, remove 2 bolts and unplug the MAF Sensor. DON'T remove the MAF Sensor from the airbox until it is already out of the car. When you remove it don't turn the nuts slowly, put a wrench on there and give it a sharp tap to break each screw loose so you don't break the plastic anchors on the other side.
2. You'll need to bend your ACD mounting bracket forward out of the way.

Another option is to use an open-element filter that fits inside the stock airbox, like the OMG filter. The airbox is modified by having its bottom and one its sides cut free, allowing the filter to fit inside. One retains the factory mount, gets the ram-air effect (if you will ) of the factory design, no turbulence from a MAF adapter and its open position in the engine bay, and the sound is a little more subdued though still pretty violent. FWIW, that what I use on my IX. If I had to go back to a Works panel filter that I used before, wouldn't really matter. On a much more powerful car, all this can make for a more significant difference. On a stock-ish Evo, not so much.

i have way too many dry filters in stock and need them gone by the end of month

spoolinup, tbe, hallman, tune. Can hold off on spoolinup if drivability isn't a big + for you. I recommend saving up for injectors, fp turbo etc so you don't have to pay more than once for tune.
Drop in filter, MBC, TBE, Fuel Pump, Tune! Stock intake tube isn't that bad, don't really need to mod the intake tube it unless going bigger turbo or SD. If you want to it will pick up a few hp not much. I like and Run mostly STM/Buschur Parts so id say the STM pipe as that's what i run and is a great piece. Upgrading intake pipe have been known to affect your idle a little. Depends on what you are going for.
Id suggest:
Drop in filter
Hallman Pro RS MBC
Buschur Racing 3" TBE
Walbro 255 or DW320
AEM Wideband or Innovative LC-1 for tuning
Boost Gauge
Fresh Spark Plugs (prior to tune)
Boost Leak test (prior to tune)
TUNE!!!

I don't think anyone makes a cold air intake for the IX's. I know there's one for USDM '03-'04 which can go into the fender since there's no ACD. Closest I could get to cold air intake is with my own setup with a hacked stock airbox with a Speedelement OMG filter.
