Like everyone else says, just take a step back and take a break from the mods. Instead, drive it easy and focus on maintenace so it lasts longer.

cool story bro here- I bought the evo for my wife to drive and so we have something to get us through the mountains in the winter. We still owe on it so I told myself we will not mod it until its paid off(even after that we will keep minimal mods). I have a Tacoma that was super reliable when it was supercharged. I decided to turbo it and **** kept breaking(its not running at the moment). I cant wait for it to get fixed just so I can enjoy driving it for a while

yeah i realy never beat on it other then a few 3rd-4th gear romps if when my wifes not inthe car haha. ever since 09 when i took it to drag for the first time for myself and the car, after staging i felt calmer then i thought and decided to launch hard. this was when i was making 440hp and my ACT clutch didnt like it much, melted itself to the flywheel an ended my day.

that was its only trip to date to the 1320 and i never made it to the end to get a slip, hell i didnt get to second gear. after that i started babying the car until i could get things beefed up. hence my frustration. two years of babying and things still broke.

they only times my car has been beaten has been during tunning sessions after upgrades. although as of right now i feel confident that ive done the right upgrades an that the car should b fine for years of daily driving. when i do finaly take it back to the 1320 for some slips and to get back some of my pride i left on the first 30ft, maybe ill remember y i did it all in the first place.

sorry for the long story. i know im not the first or the last to b in this position.

thanks for the thoughts.

Lol I am or was a salary employe in a country where someone that goes to college earns 500 to 800 usd a month. A lower to middle management salart is 1000 to 2000 a month.

Am with out a job and still can't let go this is crack!

At one point I had two evos, s2000 and toureg which I used to pick on honda gsr and ser sucks to lose to an suv.

Oh yeah and no loans! 80% of my salary went towards cars and the other 20 was still good enough to lead a decent life.

I've had and still do 2 evo and an s2k at our local performance shop at the same time for breaking stuff.

Focusing on 1 car only from now on and not racing my s2k cruise car.

I'm reading this, shaking my head, and asking what's the frucking point? I mean, if it's to mod just to mod, doing it as a hobby, constantly considering whatever upgrade comes next, debating the parts, etc, then I do understand. If this is the case, then where is the problem? Things are progressing exactly as they should.

OTOH, if it's a matter of wanting a very capable car, then all this is absurd. We get a world class machine right out of the box. WORLD CLASS. It needs nothing to be one of the most capable automobiles every produced by mankind. It just so happens that our cars are not unlike the factory specials of the 60s, where rejetting the carb(s) and installing some headers brought about gobs of extra power. Are Evos more fun to drive at 300whp than 225whp? Sure, and that's where the fun part usually ends, as one begins to make significant changes to the factory configuration to make more and more power. And, to what end?

As written above, there's virtually no use of this power due to fear of breakage or malfunction. At the risk of pointing to the obvious, the car is no longer driven in a manner that defines the use of a world class high-performance vehicle, so where is the gain in all this? If the car was left relatively stock - basic VIII upgrades: exhaust, MBC, fuel pump, IX DV, conservative tune and that's it - it could be driven at the edge of its life day after day and still come back for more. So, I ask again, what's the frucking point of a megabuild?

Depends on what people are using it for... I contend that every car has a threshhold where it becomes built beyond what the car can reasonably handle and the cost/frustration goes up exponentially when you cross that point.

I was one of very few people with a 300+ rwhp RX-8 and the car's reliability suffered tremendously when I started pushing the limits. I think the Evo's limits are obviously a lot higher, but when you start pushing them, things break. You just keep finding the failure points and replacing them until you have a car running stable at that power level... then you want more and start breaking things again.

Where is the "stopping point" where things are fun and still reliable? I know that with few exceptions I think most people would be happy with an Evo making ~400 whp on pump gas with a stock block and near-stock spool. Suspension mods designed to improve the handling characteristics are also a good bet. The guys that seem to lose the fun in the car are the ones who have eaten through 6 clutches, 2 motors, etc chasing a hp number they can't easily use.
