Is the 6 speed better for road racing

Hey guys got a ? Building a Evo for road racing wanted to know would it be better to have a 6 speed or go with a 5 speed. I know the 6 speed is weak but if u build it I hear it's really good what u guys think

I don't recommend the 6-spd unless you plan to keep the car at near factory power levels and/or run a transmission cooler. Some people have had better luck with it than others, but at 400+ whp I blew my 6-spd up very quickly. I swapped to a built Shep 5-spd and haven't looked back.

Keep it simple, stay with a 5 speed. I love the idea of a stout 6 speed gear box for our cars, but to my knowledge it's yet to be proven in a road race environment.

If you plan to road race with 400+ whp then you want a 5-spd.

Your sig didn't have the info, nor did your OPed thread. Are you thinking Evo VIII/IX or Evo X?

The Evo X has a significantly broader powerband which makes the 5sp. sing.
The VIII/IX has had a stouter 5sp. but really needs some ratio tweaks. Shep. is the best recommended shop to help you with this.

Stock for stock, I'd stick with the 5 speed. If you're going to have the tranny built by Shep, then the 6 spd should be strong enough to handle road racing at/around 400whp.

If you are over 400tq then even a built 6 speed will eventually go out if you are road racing it. I would just get a 5 speed and maybe get the hybrid gearing in it.

4th gear is the weak link. I have my 4th gear detuned to run less power, but then again I just street my car. Im at 440/400 otherwise

racing, stick with the 5. If you get the shep, it will handle much more than 400, so you'll be ok
