this can't be right, interesting oil consumption...

k so i built my 2.3 about 2 months ago. during the breakin i noticed some pretty crazy oil consumption (literally 1 quart every 50 miles). so after checking literally everything there's no doubt oil is getting by the rings. so i finally get around to pulling the pistons and this is what i find. the first and second rings look normal. but the oil control ring has absolutely no tension on the cylinder walls at all. i can easily drop the oil ring into the cylinder with no effort and move it up and down with no problem at all. also there is about a 1-2mm gap in the ring land when i press the oil control ring together. this is the only thing that makes sense for my oil consumption. has anybody else ran into this issue (perhaps the wrong rings, or pistons?) or something? or does anybody have a closeup picture of a wiseco piston with the rings installed like this one?

Maybe you didn't butt the ends together properly and overlapped them? Either way, get a set of new rings, and ensure you install the rings properly.
