Transmission Drain Plug Stripped

Yea, I ****ed it up.

My transmission drain plug is stripped, I have tried heating it with a torch it still will not come off because there is metal overlapping the plug I will try to get a picture tonight. I have 2 questions:

1) any ideas how to get it off?

2) where can I buy a new transmission drain plug I can't seem to find it in google.

Thanks in advance

Type in stripped bolt extractor/google. I use these on a regular basis fixing other peoples headaches. A new plug can be purchased from the dealer. If not, try the good ol set of locking pliers. Be careful with the heat

You can weld a old wrench on and take it off. If you don't have a welder im sure a dealer can take it of for you.

If you do this make sure you can break the weld so you can finish turning it.

If there is enough gap where it threads in, try prying on it with a flathead and use a wrench to loosen it. Sometimes this works.

If not, a good vice and some man power will work.

Which is why you weld a nut on the end of the bolt, instead of a wrench

The threads aren't stripped, just the hex head right? The prior owner of my Evo overtorqued everything on the transmission when putting an aftermarket clutch in. It took heat to get the drain plug out. +1 on locking piers/vise grips.

I might try the locking pliers, why do you say be careful with the heat? Boil the trans fluid?

Can anyone chime in some reputable shops near long island (syosset) area?

Thanks for the replies everyone.

u have a few options, i suggest the one that ALWAYS works for me and i use it in a industrial application.
Left handed drill bit, Drill it drain it, Then use a Easy out Stub nose extractor Works EVERYtime.

Drilling with the left handed bit will loosen it and heat it up a bit, if not pull the thing out for you. if its sill in there after that use the Extractor use the second step down size to the thread size so u dont ruin the threads and if it fails u can use the next size up.
I took a picture so you know what you need. Dont use a cheap brand! if the extractor brakes off your done for LOL.
And tape the drill bit off so you dont go in to far and hit something u dont wanna hit

I get most stripped bolts off with channel lock pliers. I also like to use an air chisel. (I wouldn't for this because the aluminum transmission case will likely get damaged)

Not for long. Just try it with vise grips/channel locks first. If that doesn't work, add some heat and try again.
