I just bought an 04 EVO 8. I get a ticking through the stereo speakers that matches engine speed. Under boost, the ticking noise through the speakers is louder. The noise does not happen when the stereo is off. The stereo is stock. Anyone heard of this, or am i going to have to wire the power, acc and ground from scratch to resolve it?

 

time bomb....but seriously; sounds like the speakers are about to crap. Ask Mods to move this thread to Audio & Security you will get better response there.

 

Could be it is time for some new plug wires.

 

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the the previous owner tapped the radio for power for the EGT gauge whose sensor wire runs under the spark plug cover next to the cams on its way to the exhaust manifold. Will let you know when I've had time to look into it.
