Also, this is a little objective, and it depends on how you want to look at it, but I've always considered the "birthday" of the Evo the '93 Monte Carlo Rally where it debuted (January 21st), regardless of the fact that I'm sure the car was on sale before the beginning of that year in order to qualify for the homologation rules.

Randomly? It's been a tradition for them to use the same platform for three generations each (I-III, IV-VI, VII-IX), so I wouldn't call it random.
