Hey everyone I was just wondering if anyone has put later model air bag steering wheels on earlier models for example evo 7 mono steering wheel on a evo 5 car?

Cheers

I assume you're asking this based on aesthetic reasons? Or what purpose are you trying to do this?

basically want to know if you can bolt on a evo 7 steering wheel while retaining its airbag onto a CP9A chassis ie. Evo 5... make sense? in other words, i like the evo 7 style steering wheel compared to the evo 5 one

Lol. Might want to check up on your facts before busting them out .

I've looked into it, and been told by a couple of people in the know that it won't work. Pretty disappointing, the CT9a ones look so much better than our ones.

It will not bolt on right out of the box, but what some Galant and DSM guys have done is basically cut and weld the two wheels to make the CT9A wheel slide onto the CP9A shaft. There has been no confirmation as to if the airbag works in this conversion

My advice? It's not worth the risk (the welded on wheel) in event of a collision. Buy yourself a proper aftermarket wheel if the OEM one bothers you enough.

...Yes, the CP9A wheel is really ugly, and the airbag is the only reason I'm keeping mine lol

In New Zealand, if your car comes with an airbag equipped wheel, you need to keep it in order to keep your car legal. Which is why the later model wheel would be a very popular swap (keep airbag+not look dated as hell).

However you can get your car certified without an airbag if your car is over 13 years old, which is what I'll be doing as soon as I can haha.
