Spun bearing?

Hey everyone.

I think I may have spun a bearing today. =\. I am not too sure of the cause of it, but before this all happened I attempted to crush my evo x bov in hopes that it will hold boost better. I crushed it, reinstalled, went for a drive and WOT in third gear. I kept my eye on the boost gauge to make sure it wouldn't spike pass 25psi after the quick pull. I noticed a weird noise, when idling and lightly stepping on the throttle it makes a ticking noise. I'm not sure if it is an issues with the bov or if I spun a bearing. If anyone has ever had a similar issue please fill me in .

thanks everyone.

I also checked to see if I was low in oil and no i'm not. Also pulled the dipstick to see if there were any gold flakes stuck to it and didn't find any.

I agree that it sounds more like an exhaust leak from the video. It should be a pretty obvious one from the sound of it.

Hey everyone, I just got back from double checking all the bolts and nuts and they are still all torque'd down to spec. I think my loud *** exhaust is drowning the ticking noise I am hearing. I also checked the dipstick and found a gold metal shaving. . The only thing i haven't done is switch bov's to see if it'll remedy the problem. But the gold metal shaving makes it pretty clear... fml

Drain the eng oil. It will tell you for sure. Or take the eng oil filter off and cut it open. If you see a bunch of gold shavings then there's your answer.

Drain your oil. Normally a spun bearing will tap louder than that, though. I know it's not, but that's what piston slap sounds like.

sound from the video doesnt sound like a spun bearing will be lound tap when idle, and tick noise will be a bent valve. drain the oil and check to see if you see metal in the oil check with magnet

It might be. I'll be draining and tearing apart the oil filter tomorrow. I've never noticed this noise before. After I WOT in 3rd and cruised to a stop I heard a ticking noise...

I hope all is well though

Could be a few things (including a spun bearing). There's no reason for there to be a bent valve, he would have mentioned that he over revved or something of the sort. They don't just bend as they are probably one of the strongest parts of an engine

I don't think I bent any valves.. I didn't over rev and fuel cut should prevent that? correct? I crushed my bov, went through third gear 7k rpm and kept my eye out on the boost gauge making sure I didn't overboost, which I didn't. And after popping it back to neutral I heard a light ticking noise. I can it during idle and when I was driving it back home.

Would it be possible that it is a lifter issue? I started it this morning and found what I thought were flakes, but when I poked them they were only air bubbles?

I also have a friend who is loaning me another BOV to see if it will fix this issue. Perhaps I ruined the bov? when I crushed it? But can a leaking bov cause such a problem?

i've got a few things in mind.
1. may be your timing jumped a tooth or two and now valve are hitting pistons?
2. Injectors ticking?

Spun bearing will not sound like ticking it will be a weird round which will comes e.g. under 3-4k RPM. I've experienced spun bearing many times with Honda ZC, D16 turbos etc.

I hope my timing belt didn't skip a tooth it was changed a little over 30k miles ago...

. Going to get it towed to a local shop tmrw to have it diagnosed. I hope it's nothing catastrophic...

pull the spark plug wire at each cylinder one at a time while the engine is running to see if thats where its coming from!

if the ticking stops at one of the cylinders its prob a spun bearing
