turbo to fmic to intake mani flow question
Ok I don't start many threads, but I have been pondering a new setup for when I build my motor and the question I have is this.
Current setup is stock motor with ef4 turbo, ams pipeing and fmic, milspec 65mm tb and Map rev 3 intake.
Talking with a guy at work about my setup being he is a mopar guy he was asking me about forced induction yadda yadda and he got me thinking a little. If i was going 2.4 motor, keep the one side of the turbo the AMS lower ic pipe the same, the fmic the same, but changed the upper going from 2.5 pipe out up to a 3 inch and going into a boomba or a larger 75mm tb, and into say an AMS F1 intake, would that hurt the spool and responce of the car?
I can see going a restriction being my fmic or possibly my lower ic pipe. But is it really a restriction being I am only doing one side of the ic pipeing. I guess what I would like to know is is this really a restriction being I am going from smaller to larger not larger to smaller back to larger?

i would say no due to the fact that the higher displacement means more airflow the engine can produce without the turbo coming into play. I would assume, that the difference in spool wouldnt be that much, maybe 500 or so rpms, due to a 1/2 of piping difference after the air charge is cooled through the intercooler making it more dense. As long as you have a set of cams that can keep the airflow coming through the engine, you should see definite power gains up top, maybe through the entire curve.

Thanks for the responce, and I am on the same lines as you but it is like I have to sit here and actually think about it. If i was going as I said 3 inch pipe from the turbo back to 2.5 for the fmic back to 3 inch back up I can see there being a bottle neck, and I can see it hurting the system. But all in all I wanted to see what everyone else though and if I was on the right track in thinking.
