Strange happenings...
As for the shaking, Evos like some revs to get going. As Barney said, play with the clutch a bit, give the car some juice and learn how to make it work. There is such a concept as being a good driver. Too, try shifting above 3K. There's virtually nothing there that low, torque-wise, and it's a +3200lb car. Good luck.
Heh, while many folks buy Evolutions for reasons other than driving the thing, an older guy buys one solely for one purpose. An older owner may maintain the car a bit better, though.

Been looking at some honda forums, and a lot of people have had this problem in first gear.
For some the solution was the Flywheel, and for another user is was the broken trans mount. I need to look itno those things.
I was hoping someone had the same problem with en evo however.
For the shaking off of 1st gear, I had this problem on my Z right after purchasing it and bleeding the clutch solved the problem for me. I would look into that and also seeing if the pedal needs adjusting before deciding that its the clutch. Always start by ruling out the simpler and less expensive components as the culprits before spending a lot of money on something that wasnt even the problem.
For the whine, I had a whine coming from the engine bay when I bought my evo. Turned out to be low power steering fluid so that's one thing you can check.

I think this is standard chatter when cold. Doesn't happen all the time, just when moving off just after starting the car, and then it's fine after. 3-2 shift whine? The gears and or transfer case. Try rev matching. Iwouldn't worry about it.
If the car shudders as soon as you start, that means the clutch may be partially engaged, may need a slight adjustment, that's all. If the clutch is holding in all gears, than it should not need to be changed. Funny enough, with the 5 speed on my 7, I never really got that shudder. But with the 6 speed on the 8, it happens every now and then.

Not too many people may get this analogy, I can't remember seeing them outside of Texas, I'm sure they exist elsewhere but in nowhere near as high of frequency. If you're considering a shop to take it to, use Cobb in Plano, the guys there are great and will get you sorted out.
As for the problem itself, clutch chatter would be a lot more repeatable than "sometimes" if it were just an issue of how much he's letting the clutch out. Sure, it can be quite violent (I drive a 6-puck, I know) but it's something that once you get the hang of the clutch it shouldn't happen and you'll know what it is when it does vs something that happens randomly. It wouldn't surprise me if it IS chatter, but I'd guess at this point that it's not driver induced.
On a 3-2 or a 2-1 shift you'll hear the gears engaging as they're a little closer to straight-cut than the rest of them. Whining in first and second is normal and that's probably what you're hearing as the selector engages them and they load.

Thank you, I am fortunate enough to have Cobb & Evolution dynamics here in my area. Both great Evo shops. I am begining to understand how the car drives.
I drove it most of the evening tonight, and tried to give it more gas as I start in first, did not encounter the problem. Seems that my Evo doesn't smooth like low rpm start. Nevertheless, I will take it to one of the shops to have it looked at in conjunction with Intake & turbo-back install & tune.
The shaking doesn't happen when I gas it a little in first.
However, when downshifting for a stop sign, 3th and 2nd still whine sometimes, it wines right at friction and than once the clutch is disengaged it is fine. Need to look into this.

This keeps happening again, the shaking. Also, now I noticed it does it in reverse. I am starting to maybe suspect the axle, however there is no poping noise I can hear. No vibration in the steering wheel, the shake seems to only happen on the front of the car. I need to narrow this down and have it fixed.
