Considering buying another Evo - and selling the one I have now
it will be a tremendous pain. i wont lose out SO much simply by the fact I'll be selling some decent parts, like the turbo and the trans.
i figure though, i've literally been thinking about it for 6 years on and off, pretty much every time I see a WW evo, so it may be worth getting that off my chest
Trade it for a lower mileage white IX plus cash. If my IX was white I would trade in a heartbeat. Lots of owners would kill to have the shep stuff. And don't get an MR. If you want some of the MR stuff swap it into a cheaper model. imo.
tc has acd. thank god the rear fits the same. trans i'll sell to someone looking for the shep or leave it in the car when i sell mine.

sounds like thats something you really want so go for it.
i guarantee you someone here in CA would do that trade! that is a steal if it well taken care of and not beaten up.. if its something you want just do it and dont look back, just make sure yoyu dont trade it and then realize the evo you USED to have ran better..
Hey man, I would trade you, just kidding, man black is a hot color, throw some wheels on that bad boy, it def makes a difference. Wait if you wanted a WW the whole time why didn't you just wait for one?
thanks for all the advice guys. gonna move forward with this, almost 100% positive
If I were you, I'd just repaint the car white. I own an MR and I'm going 80mph by the time I kick it in 6th gear. My point is you won't be needing 6th for daily driving cuz your power is in the higher rpms.
Probably the worst choice of his options, imo. Not only will it kill the resale value, but to properly respray the car in a new color is gonna be upwards of 5k or even more easily. Hell, when my car got vandalized they just had to redo two doors and a fender and that was close to 4k, but unless your a pro its really hard to tell its been repainted. If this was a 3k car then ya that would be an option, but an evo I wouldnt consider that a viable option. my .02
have you thought about wrapping it in white vinyl, just another option that's cheaper than paint and it's reversible.
here is an example i found on google, from GG color to white:

I'm going to tell you it's not worth it, at all. The color I get, the rest of it doesn't matter when it's built anyway. You will lose a TON of money doing what you are thinking of doing and won't have anything to show for it other than a different colored car. Not to mention you may inherit someone elses can of worms. You know you cared for your car, you know that everything is flawless. You will most likely never find that in another car (its possible but highly unlikely in the evo market).
Write everything out cost-wise on paper - the swap VS demod'ing your car. Then think of how many seasons of STU you can pay for with the difference....
Best of luck

Wow thanks for all the input guys. Don't get any of these notifications in my e-mail.
1, totally agree with TommiM in terms of paint. I've seen some thorough paint jobs, and in terms of $$ it's just not the way to go.
I know that its technically not worth it - I thought I'd get over the color thing by now but it's been 5-6 years now and I'm in a position where it's financially viable to me. Don't want to keep investing in this car when I don't totally love it. The car is a total monster right now though - FP green BB, built trans, t-case, and rear diff make the car extremely fun in autocross.. but every time I look at it I wish I had white. I even dream about it, I'm embarrassed to admit (lol) and I wake up annoyed.
Wanting to run in STU is another thing as well. Engine-wise the car will remain stock for STU, except an intake or whatever. Transfer in the t-case and rear diff, and then prep the suspension on the MR, sell the rest of the performance parts on my GSR. After I sell the GSR and the parts I don't expect to come out at too much of a loss financially, though obviously I will have a car with less mods than i currently do. It's worth it to me for a WW MR though, crazy as it is.
