Ralliart water temp thermostat .. normal opens at 80 degrees celsius ..

What it does is it allows the coolant to start flowing to the radiator earlier .. thereby keeping the engine cooler .. only a problem if you're staying in colder climates

It is the other way around, Ralliart opens at 71C, while the oem opens at 80C.

From the upper radiator hose to the engine ..
Where the hose go into a housing on the engine .. that's where the thermostat is .. you need to take off a couple of bolts that ties auxiliary stuff to the block .. and there's 3 bolt itself that holds the housing down .. the thermostat just pops out once you remove the housing .. make sure the engine's cold though ..

After you do this .. your temp stays like at the 1/4 mark whenever you are moving .. once you stop .. it creeps back to norm ..

The idea of this thermostat is to secure a safe egine temperature when suddenly pushing your car very hard. There is a delay in a thermostat so when you do this sudden power burst the engine temp may climb to dangerous hights before the thermostat notice and starts to open. If you have the 71 degrees one installed the normal starting temp is lower so you would never get too high befor it opens.

I hope this made some sense?

Since you live in a warm location, it's relatively cheap and some one who knows a bit of working with cars would probably change it in less than 10 minutes I would say it's worth it for you.

Yes definitely .. I too stay in a perpetually hot place .. the engine runs cooler, everything is cool Performs even better on the track ..

Drawback is on slightly cooler mornings .. the car takes a long while to warm up .. so you gotta watch that spirited driving early in the morning ..

Does anyone know if draining the coolant is required? I'm not sure with the engine being cold if this is needed. There service manual says to drain it

Well it looks like you have to drain the coolant. When removing the housing fluid started coming out

Thermostat 101

I did not drain my coolant.

I let what ever spill out of the top radiator hose. Then ran water over the spilled coolant because the coolant is very corrosive to paint and stuff. I removed the 3 bolts on the metal housing to the upper radiator hose. Pulled out the old thermostat. The new one has a rubber seal that will seal it to the housing.

Torque bolts to 10 +- N.M (84 +- 13in-lb)

Then add coolant and distilled water to radiator.

Make sure that all hoses are connected/ then start car with radiator cap off..... Turn heat on inside the car at full (4).

Wait for coolant to cycle through the radiator when the Radiator fan kicks on.....
Add more coolant/ water & then put radiator cap on.

Drive and test for leaks and add coolant to coolant overflow bottle if its low.

Good luck

Derek
