What model EVO to get?

Hi guy's
I have a 2011 gsr that I am trying to get rid of and I am looking at some EVO's from Japan. What model do you guy's think would be best I am looking at a evo 4-7 right now I like the 4 body but I also like the 6/7 body I'm not worried about the engine because I can always swap it out with a new model or rebuild.
I can't find any info about them being out lawed in the US like the GTR so I am guessing they are good to import.
Any idea's?

AFAIK you guys can only import JDM models for show/track, not for street driving (well not legally at least).

+1
For a car that was not originally sold in the US, you have to wait until it is 25 years or older to be able to legally import it for street use.

You can always move to Canada... JDM vehicles older than 15 years can be imported and registered.

We're nice, promise!

Well thats the thing I don't get is like GTR can't be imported but I was thinking older models evo's could because a fd rx7 can be imported into america easy since it was released in the states. I know the evo's were not sold in the states but i figured that there dot rateing would be different then the GTR since thats the reason it can't be imported.

that's why it's easy.

evos were not sold in the states, therefore they are in the exact same category as the GTR's. i.e. not legal.

If you want a 7, buy an 8 or 9 and swap in the 7 bumpers and spoiler.
If you want a 4-6, do a conversion from the same gen mirage.
You simply can't import a vehicle unless it's strictly for track or show.
Some people have found a few ways around this but it's typically not legal and can be confiscated on the spot if discovered. Not worth it IMHO.

Get a IX or wait til the Evos are 25 yrs old

Like everyone else has said, it's going to be a really huge headache to do it since you'll deal with a lot of problems later on down the line. Just because the JDM Evos from the VII and earlier haven't been cracked down on like the GT-R doesn't mean that they're in the clear. People were saying that about the Kaizo GT-Rs being okay after the MotoRex GT-Rs got snatched up. But then they weren't safe either.

please do a search. I have posted ad-nausium about this, and don't want to do it again.

but NO, for 25 years, you cannot LEGALLY import any vehicle which was not built to US Federal DOT/EPA standards regardless of it a US version was offered unless the vehicle is brought into the US through a registered importer, and the vehicle has been modified to meet model year DOT/EPA standards.
