Works P2 installed...

i had them do the install since i live and work close enough such that skipping the shipping nearly paid for their labor charges.

my impressions:

the top end power is obviously much more fun than before, but the surprise for me was the extra (er, completely new) power under the boost curve. the engine can now accelerate decently without boost, and then when the boost hits, whammo.

first and second gears aren't all that different because the gearing is so short, but third and fourth, where the power sucked *** before the P2, are now awesome. the boost holds (not sure the actual psi cuz I dont have a guage) solid and the power just stays on, to the new, higher rev limit.

the car got much faster overall because of the heightening and widening of the entire power curve, but it still doesnt feel as fast as my friend's Buscher stage 1 equipped car (of course, that does have full exhaust w/race muffler and mine has completely stock exhaust).

being that my primary concern is keeping the warranty valid, this is the best mod i can think of for someone who just wants the power curve to be shaped as it should be.

Where is WC?

Turbocake, you live just a few miles from Vishnu. Why not there? Works is in L.A.

NIcely put turbocake.....Mine has the P2 and Exhale. I run around 19-20psi but that is "converted" from my possibly innacurate "Mitsubishi Sport Meter" boost gauge. I am starting to get "used to the power" so I am looking for more. I think a COMPLETE exhaust (dp, high-flow cat or delete,ip) will do the trick. When I am really on it I can tell it needs the exhaust. It just feels slightly held back I guess. ENJOY!!!

not sure if they're in LA or not, but I know they have a shop in S.F.. I dropped the car off and worked in my SF office for the day.

it would have been easier to go with Vishnu, but I deduced from their own website info that they really don't change the shape of the power curve. i want a power curve that ramps up the whole time, not hits and falls off... that's just no fun to me. Vishnu claims they compensate on the top end with more timing/less fuel.

in my experience, however, you're better off with more boost and less aggressive tuning for overall power. It would seem the Mitu's stock tune complies to this general rule, being that it comes with 19pis and runs 9.5:1 is actually overstating my above point.

these things considered, it just makes sense that the dyno charts I've seen of stock or nearly stock xflash and P2 evo's has the works powerband looking the best to me. id rather sacrifice power in the midrange and have the power curve i want (if thats even the case).

plus they at least have something in the boost signal hose or whatever it is that has the stock restrictor that Vishnu totally removes. if the dealer looks for the pill and can't find anything, it's a dead give away, but if there's at least something there, there's a greater chance the tech will figure it's the stock piece (small chance, but still, what if the motor blew? i dont even want to have to worry about it)

i almost forgot to mention.. isnt Works the only place that raises the rev limit? not sure, but its nice to be able to wind the motor out higher than before and be making power the entire time.

I am unsure if the other tuners increase rev-limit. I was wondering, do you feel you need to shift at 7800? I like the increased rev-limit for peace of mind but I feel the car is faster when shifted at around 7000-7100. Any further past that and the "butt-dyno" says we arent making h.p. anymore....I really look forward to replacing the dp. Are you going to go with the WORKS exhaust?

its hard to say if the power is still kickin at the new redline, but i think it helps in long pulls in 3rd or 4th.

it also helps when you're using both hands on the wheel for a turn and could use some extra time on the gas to delay your need to shift.

as for other mods, i like their stock muffler with the flapper valve stuck open, but i think ill leave it completely stock for a long time.

i dont want warranty issues. if the motor blows, having a downpipe or anything changed could be used against me in the argument for the dealer.

i also like it as quiet as possible, with the only noise being the turbo.

i think im going to (after 100k) go with cams, throttle body, and an upgraded turbo, maybe intercooler piping too... all with the stock exhaust. i want it quiet and fast, and although i'll lose power by not upgrading the exhaust, it will still be plenty fast for being so damn quiet.

the extended rev range is worth its weight in gold on the tarmac...
