Help buying beginner tools for EVO IX
Thank you everyone for your advice. I went to sears today and bought the aforementioned set: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...ol%20Setsmv=rr
But I have a question that may seem stupid. The magnetic driver (that looks like a screwdriver handle) that all the bits (phillips and flat heads and nut drivers) are supposed to go into appear to have the same size, but will not go directly in. Are they supposed to or am I supposed to push a button or unscrew the handle or something to get it to go in or did I just get a defective handle?

Here is a picture of what I'm referring to. Is this bit supposed to be placed in directly into the handle or is there some sort of adapter? It won't go in correctly, and if I jam it in, it just goes on crooked like this. Do I have a defective handle?

a good metric set of sockets, 1/4", 3/8", and half inch ratchets with extensions will get you through most jobs. set of screwdrivers, Phillips and flat, and, if you have an air compressor, some air tools. it's not until you get into the rebuilding that you will need the specialty tools. oh, just saw you got the craftman set. nice!
I have air tools with a 1/2 impact gun, and I use THIS little bad boy more than anything, 9 times out of 10 this is in my hand. Its super compact and pretty powerful to save you time. I primarily use it for taking stuff apart so you dont have to sit there with a ratchet wrench backing a bolt out. its a great time saver. Its not as powerful by any means as a 1/2" impact, but it'll do 90% of the entire car and fit in tighter spots. All it needs is a 3/8 bit adapter and youre set. Its a Bosch Mini Impact. Ive had my whole car apart time and time again, I finally got this, and I dunno how I lived without it for so long.
It we're talking impact, this is the best deal out there right now:

I cross-referenced what I learned here with what I learned at garage journal and came up with the following to add to my basic set of Craftsmans...

I've got two impacts one pneumatic and the other is electric. I use my electric one more than the other for the simple fact of not needing to set up the are lines and compressor.
You can even get cheap electric impacts ran by electric cord which work fairly well.
Also make sure to get a 1/2" breaker bar, you wont regret it. As long as you get a decent set that has life time warranty you'll be fine. Make sure you have warranty because tools break haha.

I used to use a snap on electric impact at work till they bought a new Ingersoll w7150 and it blew the snap on away.. not sure on the price but it works amazing for getting rusted nuts and bolts apart
