US Mirage + Evo 8 = YAY OR NAY

Ok so for those of you that know my story (and those who don't there's a link in my sig) you folks know that my Evo is salvage titled. Nothing wrong with it, it drives fine, and performs amazing. But I was thinking if I ever were to have to sell it, I would lose out a bunch of $$$. That and I'm a sucker for rare cars. So I've been bouncing around the idea of converting a US mirage into an Evo 5, using whatever I can off of the 8 I own now. I'm talking stripping EVERYTHNG USABLE off the 8 and just trashing the rest. So I was wondering what your folks opinions are on this conversion. I'm pretty sure having an entire 8 will make it easier but at the same time is it worth it? Opinions, experiences, thoughts, slaps across the face, all welcome. Go.

you're worried about losing a bunch of money and you want to convert a mirage to an evo? do you think that's a cheap / easy task?

the only stuff you'd really use would be the motor. everything else would be sourced from an evo 5 overseas

Not worth it in my opinion. Don't tear apart a perfectly good evo for no reason.

And I'm pretty sure you will lose more money when you go to sell a Mirage that you converted, then just selling your Evo outright. Not to mention the money you will have to put into the Mirage to get it to that point.

A salvaged evo viii that has no problems isn't rare enough for you?

NAY! Unless you want to step up to the challenge...

This guy did it or is still doing it....

Way too much involved and expensive in my book...very cool nonetheless!!!

So you can either lose $4k off value for the salvage title or lose $14k+ converting a $500 car into a $500 car with a $5000 drive train that will still be hard to sell? Sounds like a no brainer, enjoy what you have or if the title bothers you that much for some reason sell it and take your lumps.
There was a Mirage evo conversion for sale down here about a year ago, real primo job, top notch.... even had the proper evo ~5 rear floor pan welded in at the stock locations, no ugly new seam welds etc. When they finally sold it the buyer just bought it for the drive train and sent the car to the junk yard. If you are worried about the value of the vehicle, you are barking up the wrong tree with a Mirage conversion.

I should have been more clear. My car here is worth around $5000. Clear title 8's are going for 9-11k. I don't wanna sell the car for $5000. Not worried about spending money just wasting it. Oh and last month a local mirage converted 5 full seam welded sold for 23k. Idk where you folks are from but people from here will pay top dollar for a clean car. Maybe because its a ***** to ship cars here.

People pay more for a (not to be offensive) fake evo 5 than for a clean evo 8 and by your number twice as much......I'm stumped

I don't get it either. Well i'm in no rush. I can run the 8 until its damaged beyond repair (look at its track record lol) and then use the parts to convert a mirage later down the line. Don't worry evo 8 loyalist i won't kill it LOL.

I just think you have a solid VIII to start with. You could really build on that

Did you buy it with a salvage title or did it become salvage title while you owned it?
