Another noob question...

Are a/f ratio gauge and wideband o2 gauges the same thing? Someone told me they're not. Aren't they used for the purpose? Got me confused.

I think what they were trying to say is that there is a difference between a basic a/f gauge that you can buy at pepboys. Those cheaper ones use a narrow band o2 sensor to operate off of and that is not accurate enough for tuning purposes. A wideband reads the whole spectrum of a/f ratio and uses a laboratory grade o2 sensor to read from. So technically yes there is a difference between a basic a/f gauge and a true wideband set up. If youre going to be using this for tuning you need a wideband.

Thanks for the replies. I bought a autometer wideband already. But the guy got me second guessing myself. Thanks for the clarification.

If you like flashing lights that dont do anything. Get a narrowband. If you want a gauge for tuning your car then get a wideband. Which you already have

Another good idea would be to patch your ECU to eliminate the Rear, post cat, Narrow band 02 sensor and wire your wideband's analog output directly into the stock ECU. This will make logging much easier when using a program like Evoscan. Also if you use a TephraV7 rom you can set up a warning that will flash your CEL and or Cut boost if your AFR's go to lean (programmable) over a certain load (programmable). See ECUflash subforum for more details.

Thanks for the idea. I am planning on tuning my car myself. Will give it a try when I get a chance to install my gauges.

NP, the amount of tuning information/knowledge over in the ECUFLASH sub will blow your freakin mind. Your one stop shop for learning to tune your evo.
