DGold. Welcome. You should try posting that in the Evo X forum, but as a general piece of advice... there isn't a ton that can be figured out from that link, because there isn't a ton of info.

Either way, the dealers will pull all the parts and get it back to "stock" anyhow, so most stuff gets hidden.

There are alot of Evo X's for sale. You should try and find one from a private person and buy it. You will save money and price is more negotiable. Also you will know about the history of car from owner.

Thanks. Yeah I realized I posted in the wrong section a second too late. I do plan on looking around a little more but this is the closest to me that I've found yet. I'm always weary of buying from a private owner because I worry about the mods they may of used and whether or not it was tuned properly if they tuned at all. Not that this can't happen with a dealer, I've just always felt a little more at ease going through one. If i knew the private owner knew what they were doing, I'd definitely be interested.

Unless you're buying new, you're MUCH safer buying from private party with an Evo.

Dealers get these cars BACK from private parties. The cars have been hooned. EVERY Evo gets driven like crazy. At least when you talk with the original owner, you KNOW what their plans were, what their personality is like, etc.

Plus, you don't have to deal with the $4k markup, and the mechanics putting it back to stock so they can sell it as "stock, never raced" with a tank full of 87 octane.

Awesome advice. I appreciate that. The one at the dealership had fairly low miles for it being over 5 years old so I figure it sat around in a garage a lot. It is in great shape as far as the body goes. I have seen it in person to verify this.

There isn't a lot of used Evos for sale in my area but I have seen there seems to be a lot of them for sale in general. Is this just because modding and maintenance of them isn't cheap? This car will be a DD that's why I was looking into the MRs. I want a fun/reliable DD car and when I saw this one posted, it seemed too good to pass up.

For that kind of cash try to get a newer one. The early ones had a few problems that the newer ones dont have. Also as stated before, private sale is better. Check the X used car FS forum. Probably find a good deal.

Welcome. I must say this forum has been very helpful. It's taught me a great deal about owning an Evo. To add onto that note, if there's anything that you can't find, you could always start a thread and I'm sure you'll get the answer you're looking for.

There aren't a lot of Evo's period. That said... the X is different, and can't really even be compared to the Evo 1-9.

Evo's as a brand are very popular, but few people realize what it costs to own a car like this. As such, many people buy in, now that the costs (on the 8's especially) have come down significantly to where many can afford them. The problem is, Evo's are pretty expensive (relative to their cost) to operate. So much so, that people end up not being able to afford the general maintenance, and that compounded with everyone NEEDING to make 600whp... basic stuff gets skimped on.

To give you a general idea, and I don't think my costs are out of line, because my Evo is very basically modified, and I do all of my own work... so I KNOW everything is up to date... My 9MR costs me .47 cents per mile to operate. That of course doesn't include the purchase price of the vehicle, and is averaged over roughly 20,000 miles.

Factor in purchase price, insurance (especially if you're younger), or having to PAY to have services done rather than doing them myself, and you can see how it can add up quickly.

I figured the expensive maintenance was the reason the Evo I posted was for sale with only 12k miles on it. I do not plan on doing any modding to it for awhile. Probably easier said now then when I actually am driving the car but for at least the first year or so my priorities are elsewhere.

Currently I use a 2003 dodge durango for my daily driver. I've had it for almost 5 years and will be paid off next payment. I may be going elsewhere for work and driving the durango an hour a day will be pretty expensive on gas alone. Also, it has 140k miles on it so I am beginning to worry even though it has been incredibly reliable so far.(Knock on wood)

I'm in no rush to go out and buy an Evo right away but I am in the market looking for an AWD car that I will enjoy driving everyday. The Evo was the first to grab my attention.

Yeah man, definitely not trying to turn you off of an Evo, although I don't really like the 10's. But it doesn't do the community any good to see people buy into these cars (especially the out of production models) and expect something it isn't.

The 10's are MUCH more "luxurious" than the 4G63 cars. Worth noting as well, you likely won't see better fuel economy in an Evo either. My cars lifetime average is 18.9mpg (5.291 gallons per 100 miles in case you wanted a good comparison). And that includes a round trip from the East coast to Colorado.

I appreciate the warm welcome and honest advice. I found a forum so I could do a little research and see what I was getting into so I appreciate the blunt truths.

I'd eventually like to get into modding but honestly, my priorities are elsewhere at the moment but as I said I am in the market for an AWD car that I can have fun with and look back at after I park it and say.."that's my car". I'm sure you all know the feeling haha. Reliability and potential are what I'm looking for.

I only posted a link for the 10 because it is the closest one to me that is for sale. I've read a lot about the older generations and they seem to be admired greatly. I wouldnt be afraid to look into one of those. From what I'm reading though if DDing is what I'm looking for, the Evo X isnt a bad option. I'll continue doing research and seeing what I find out. Keep the advice coming guys. I really appreciate it. Thank you all for your time.
