My Evo 8 will not idle.

I got a 2003 Mitsubishi Evo 8, I just got it about a month ago and its already giving me problems. When I start it, it will take a while for the motor to completely cut on, but as soon as the rpm's start coming down, it wont stop and the car shuts off. It will idle at about 0.5 Rpm for a few seconds and then the car shuts off. Maybe its a bad fuel pump? Someone tell me whatsup with it please.

dunaway, welcome.

1. Are you getting any check engine lights?
2. What modifications are done to your vehicle?
3. What's the mileage?

do you have a tactrix cable and evoscan yet? If so, see what is causing that CEL. Let us know if you able to do that or just go to auto zone and get a free scan so you can at least see what code it is. Good luck and welcome!

Get a 10 dollar blue tooth scanner on amazon...and torque app for your phone...way cheaper of you aren't gonna be a logger/tuner. Also...IAC.

I wonder if something is up with the tune...

Desired ISCV intial step position with AC off-Neutral
Desired ISCV intial step position with AC off-Drive
Desired ISCV intial step position with AC on-Neutral

Those values could possibly be part of your problem in your tune unless you can confirm the car did idle properly after the tune was completed.

Possibly massive boost leak, all that unmetered air although I would think you would be complaining about more than just idle if that was the case. Could be many things, as others stated, get the codes write them down. Then clear the codes and start the car. Let it idle for a few and recheck for codes, if a code comes on right away you need to get that issue resolved first.
