Hit a pot hole

So I hit a pot hole going about 40-45 mph today and it sounded like a gunshot went off it was so loud. So I pulled over to make sure my rim isn't bent and it's not thank god. I continued driving home and it seemed to drive like normal. Should I be worried about anything? I've never heard anything that loud before. Let me know if anyone has had a similar experience and if anything got damaged

I've hit potholes before. The front engine support brace smacks against the ground and can get bent to sh*t. Living in Chicago I've replaced that front cross member twice now. Also blew a strut out once too. I'd throw it on a lift and take a look to make sure nothing got damaged. Or a jack with jack stands in your garage.

There's no way of telling a rim is bent or not without taking the wheel off the car of jacking it up and spinning it.

What kind of rims do you have on right now? The stock alloys can handle a pretty decent beating. The replicas can get bent to sh*t real easy. If you do see your rim bent. Pour some soapy water over it and see if there are bubbles coming out. If not then the least you should do is sign up for an alignment.

As soon as I read the title of the thread I knew the OP was from Philly. Roads here are worst in the known universe.

I have the bbs wheels on there. I hit on the brakes right before I hit the pot hole to lighten the blow so I bet the strut didn't have much room to travel since it was already compressed from braking. I'm lucky the tire didn't blow. The roads I drive suck so bad there is a pot hole that takes up the entire lane so I have to drive in the wrong lane to get around it at one point. I'll lift it up this weekend and see if anything is messed up.

Im up near State College and all my friends back home (30 mins north of Philly) are posting pictures of roads that are absolutely DESTROYED...

Don't worry though, in 2-3 weeks all the pot holes will be filled with tar, smacked with a shovel a dozen times and turned into speed bumps

Yeah I would just have it checked just to be sure and give you peace of mind. My buddies and I have been going to http://www.mickeyssuburbanalignment.com/ near 476.

I saw the title of this thread and I knew you were from Philly. Streets are as bad as I ever seen.

personally i would take the rim off and spin it to make sure it's not bent, also jack the car up and inspect the underlying to make sure nothing was damaged.
