Engine Rebuild advice

Hi all,

I Recently ended up Running my engine dry of oil, long story on that. I have devoloped what i believe to be a rod knock. I'm looking into budget orientated rebuild options that will allow me to handle 500/450 whp/tq safely. I know some do this on stock block but its always seems like its a fine line you have to draw when doing so. So what is the limiting factor our bottom end? I was thinking about getting this kit from English racing

http://www.shopenglishracing.com/2.0L-Budget.html

The car will be daily driven and mainly a car show/meet car. Not really any racing or autoX going on. Im open to other options as well and if the pros justify the extra spending im willing to go the extra mile.

Thanks in advance.

Personally I would utilize the stock bottom end but since you need a rebuild anyways there is no point in trying to rebuild it back to stock. If you have a rod knock chances are your crank will need some work. If you aren't an engine builder I would send it somewhere so everything can be gone through and checked other then just a local machine shop. Curt Brown does great low budget bottom ends and so does Buschur so I would at least talk to them. Chances are if you want 500hp now you will want more later so just do it right the first time.

Thanks for your input. And I agree. I'd like to overbuild the bottom end. I dont like replacing stock parts with stock parts. Feels like a waste of time and money. And I am buy no means an engine builder. I just wanted a little advice on what i think i would need/want before picking up the phone and calling everyone.

Personally id buy a pre assembled bottom end from a reputable shop. That way you have the motor built by someone who knows them in and out and all the little tricks when assembling them. It might be just a little more money, but you will have peace of mind. To me, that's worth couple hundred bucks

Id recommend buschur racing, they been doing it a long time and build great motor. But maybe im a little biased

Does anybody have a price on a rebuilt bottom end from either of those companys thats likely never going to see anything over 500/500.

My short block was $4000 but I sold my old short block for $1400 so I had a brand new 2.3 block for $2600 (there was a few discounts in there). But my build is also capable of 800whp+. The best thing I can tell you to do is call MAP and hit EXT:100 thats my buddy Drew, he's as good a salesman as anyone there. (Also the only one I talk to when I'm getting parts)
