New Intercooler option coming for the 7/8/9

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ve...tercooler.html

Figured i'd post it here since no one really looks through vendor announcements

I think this will be a pretty solid bar-and-plate IC option for those with HP goals between 350-500. On my last car (starion) I chose an intercooler that was much bigger than what I needed and definitely noticed the lag. It's nice to have more aftermarket options with the evo

I saw this the other day too. It was a very informative article. I have been thinking about upgrading to something other than stock.

What was the set-up on your previous car?

The starion/conquests didn't have many aftermarket options so I only had a choice between stock replacement and a large core so naturally I went with the big one. It wound up being too much for my setup (too much lag).

What are your HP goals for your evo?

What are your HP goals for your evo?
Well HP goal for the EVO are 400 WHP, and maintain it as a DD. Currently, I am on 91 octane fuel and hitting 300hp/ 314 tq on 25psi. My future plans are Intercooler, ported intake and exhuast manifold, adding a better flowing O2 housing, and if needed some injectors. So maybe while on 91 octane I may reach 400 without turbo upgrade (big maybe). But, from research I have seen wild setups for 400hp on 91 octane.

What do you think?

It seems we have the same HP goals. The evo is my DD as well so my goal is 400 "reliable" WHP. Right now as it sits I have an intake, full IC piping, the Mishi IC mentioned in the thread above (they used my car for R&D), full exhaust and a tune. This setup dynos at 350WHP. Problem right now is fuel system, that will have to be the next upgrade. I can almost guarantee you'll need pump & injectors if you plan to do all of those mods.

My guess would be you can reach 400 without a turbo upgrade. These motors are crazy with how easily they make power

I think the pump in my signature will support 400hp. Injectors will be the question. I just want to keep it reliable and driveable. I have had the car since 2005. Bought it brand new with 14 miles on the odometer.

Was that a mustang dyno?

pm me so we do not take over the thread in our discussion.

And so it IS a small world. I also have the same HP goal. Also going with this IC. Check out my wishlist. After I reach 400 I will be going 2.3

I don't think you'll hit 400whp w/o going to e85 or a meth kit on the stock turbo.

Why do you say that? It was so easy to get from 275 to 350. Does the stock IX turbo start to significantly stray from its efficiency range above 350?

in short yes. It will take more supporting mods and more boost. More boost requires better fuel. Fuel + the IX turbo will be your limiting factor.

Stock turbo will probably runout of efficiency before you get to 400 whp. Especially without meth. It can be done, but it won't be easy.

Might as well ad, stock turbo is a large 16g style turbo (or that's what I recall hearing them called in Dsm world) and most 16g numbers I can recall are about topped out around 350-375. I know the evo 16g is probably slightly different, but probably not 50+whp different.

Good to know. I'm sure there's been a million threads on this but while we're at it does anyone have a suggestion for a nice small step up from the S16G if the HP goal is 400? It's a mostly street driven car so I don't want too much lag
