Unusual Engine Break-in question

I read the whole hyper merge thread and this question was never brought up.

I live 2hrs from where I am buying my evo next week. I am buying it over my spring break (college student) on a Monday. I am going back to school either Friday or Saturday. Since there is no way I will be able to put 600-1000 miles on it in 5 days, how should I get back to school? The thread says not to keep an engine that is breaking-in at a constant speed/rpm. so, should I go back to school at night and vary my speed from about 45-80mph on the highway? The trip usually takes ~2hrs at 80mph.

Any suggestions?

I bought my older car like this (non turbo). Had to drive it to college 1st day I bought it. I didnt use cruise (which obviously wont be a problem), varied speed between 50 and 70, shifted from 5th to 4th, drove, then 4th to 5th once in a while, stopped at a couple rest stops to let the engine cool down/ heat up. Then when I got there, I followed the normal break in procedure. 137,000 miles later, I never had to add a drop of oil between oil changes, and the car was trouble free.

there is no scenic route. it is just a 2 lane highway.

but just keep varying speed from 50ish-80ish in and out of 4/5 gears?

Drop it into 4th for lane changes, constant speed doesnt matter as much as constant rpm. Look to vary the rpms...
