Car detailing, what do they use after they wash?

Hi guys,

i did an engine bay wash, myself today.

Im wondering what these car wash / car detailers use after they wash a car. to make all the rubber, plastic as well as metal look glossy.

I'm sure you have all seen in a used-car dealer how there is a coat of glossy film / oil that is sprayed over.

I thought it was silicone lube (as some suggest it protects rubber etc.) however, reading the can it says "avoid prolong exposure to vinyl and rubber".

anyone know?

I work at a dealer. Its basically a silicone spray. They spray it all over the engine bays, tires, etc. I hate working on the stuff they recently goobered up with that crap.

They don't care about prolonged exposure issues. They just want to make the car shiny and pretty enough so it sells fast.

Adams VRT is great for all the exterior black trim and tires. Would work great for engine bay. Dealers/quantity detail shops use a silicone dressing in aerosol can, it's quick and easy but doesn't last.

I've seen their videos on youtube

dunno how much their shipping is to Aust though.

i think one of the videos regarding engine bays was "silk shine"

But yeah, i just recall seeing cars at used car dealers covered in a real thick layer clear oily film…

that does look nice, but as someone said.. its just silicone spray

Most dealers use silicone spray, but it attracts dirt like crazy.

I would recommend Adams in and out spray or Adams VRT. All are available through detailers domain which is also a vendor on here.

It's this. Multiple dealerships I've worked at use it. That Armour-All stuff is crap, it's so greasy and slimy. Perfect 10 is awesome, you spray it on anything and it's not greasy at all.
