RS + UJP = budget evo?

Been thinking about an evo for a while now, but I can't get my dealer to give me what I want on my trade. (near bluebook on my car, and 29kish on an evo w/wing and roof). Right now I think I'd rather wait and get an 04, RS or not.

The only things I see that I'm losing (once I add the urban jungle package) are:

HID's-they would be nice, but I don't have them on my car so no loss.

Sunroof-oh well, dont have one now either.

Wing-I prefer wingless anyway. This probably saves me from buying a CF lid.

stereo-I'm a big aftermarket stereo fan. I already have what I would need.

sound deadening-I can dynamat it for sound deadening since I think much of that is gone on the RS.

Am I missing anything? I figure I can save a few k this way. Plus get the front LSD right?

Do you realize that an RS WITH the urban Jungle Package will probably cost MORE than a standard Evolution? And that dealers will probably NOT be willing to move on the price of an RS at all?

You're better off trying to find a way to afford a 2003 Evo.. you'll get a better deal.

Any hard MSRP numbers for RS? What about Urban Jungle package? From what I've read, the combination of the two is pretty close to a regular EVO pricewise.

The RS has NO sound deadening in it at all. There is no sound deadening at the footwell/firewall, no sound deadening in the door panels, no sound deadening on the floor or roof...The trunk doesn't even have plastic lining or carpet, muchless sound deadening.

If you want a decent stereo, you will need a whole lot more than just some dynomat. I really don't think the RS makes much sense as a nice stereo platform....

But this is just the opinion of a guy who is happy enough with the OEM HU.

I've been thinking about getting the RS with UJP, but I think I would miss the sound-deadening in a daily driver. A standard Evo with front LSD would be perfect. I hope hears that.

I'd agree. I have not heard of any "urban jungle package" officially from so I wouldn't get your hopes up that there is such a thing.

Plus, the RS will only be approximately $1500-$2000 less than a standard Evo... IF that.

Please stop lying! The 04 is not available for ordering yet. They are still shipping 03's.

Are you looking for near bluebook loan value or near bluebook retail value on your car? If you are looking for near retail on your car and near invoice on the Evo then you are destined for the "unreasonable buyer" section on edmunds.com. If you are looking for wholesale-wholesale then that's more reasonable.

If you are looking to save "a few k" with few being greater than 2 and less than 10 then you are going to be disappointed. The RS will probably be a couple to three thousand less than a standard Evo without adding in the UJ package.

I have to agree that going for one of the '03 models still on the ground is your best bet. Good luck.

Also note that the RS doesn't have ABS which you may or may not care about. Personally, I'm rather happy to have ABS.

Good advice thanks. ABS is probably a big one since I'll be driving year-round in Illinois (yes...at least all season tires). I was under the impression that the RS was 26k. Perhaps the UJP is more than I expected (if there is such a thing).

I'm looking at trade-in value bluebook on my car...not retail :P

The local dealer is offering 1k off of an 03 (rebate), so it's just under 30k, and under bluebook tradein. I've seen 03's going for invoice within a few hundred miles, guess it's time to take a drive. Or maybe wait two months and pay a bit more for an 04 so I dont have a year old car (at least by the numbers).

Wrong. They haven't been making '03's for a while, but they have been shipping them.

We placed our order for the only RS we could, last week. Ordering has been available for a couple weeks now.
