Goes lean, bogs out.

Driving the EVO from FL to Mississippi. 1st day had no problems. Today was about 60 miles into my trip when my wideband gauge went full lean --- and the car would just bog out. I would have to slow down from 75 to 45 as the car would not be able to go any faster. I pulled over and let the car sit for a little maybe 5-10 minutes. Start the car right back up and it would be running smoothly. Would get maybe another 20-25 miles before it would start giving me the same problem again. This time I pulled the fuses to reset the ECU to see if that helps, but after awhile of driving it would start again. The check engine light comes on after about a minute from when this problem starts.

The car is usually on e85 but for the trip I switched to the 93 tune and have been running 93.

Any help is appreciated. Wish I had a OBD scanner to see what the code is but I don't.

if you are on the pump gas tune and running e85, you will have a problem as your pump gas tune has a different scaling for the injectors. you can't run e85 on your pump gas tune and vice versa. it takes approx 30% more e85 to run the car, so i could see how that would cause a lean condition under closed loop cruising. maybe the ecu can't compensate for the 30% needed to meet the target AFR.

I'm sorry. I'm on 93. I wrote that wrong. Usually on e85 but for the trip I'm running 93 on the 93 tune.

silly question.. but you made sure you ran all the e85 out? and are sure you are on the right tune?

i know these are "duh" questions, but i used to get my pump/85 tunes mixed up LOL

I dropped the tank before I left and removed all the e85. I'm more then positive I'm on the correct tune. But it may be that as well.

it couldn't hurt to be sure. i use EcuFlash and my pump tune is on the slow-flashing CEL, 85 is on the fast-flashing CEL. i remember because 85 = fast LOL

Sounds like the P0300 code. If you have a tactrix cable it can easily be disabled and it won't happen anymore.

Double check everything to make sure there are no other issues first. I have mine disabled for years with no issues. There is a thread that explains how to and it is built into the current Tephra mods, which are already on your most recent flash if your CEL is flashing at you when it happens.

So the car drives, on pump gas, with both tunes? That's weird in itself. Pull the code, otherwise you are just shooting in the dark.

Made is to MS yesterday. Been busy getting situated on base. Tomorrow I'm going to try and find an autozone to check the code. Wish there was e85 near by so I could just switch back. Feel like my 93 tune is just ****ty.
