Do you ever get this feeling?

It seems that when I apply the brakes to come to a full stop, it seems like the time when I am close to stopping with the Evo, the brake feel seems a bit grainy....I know some of it may be contributed by the tire noise as the car is slowing down but I can still feel a little bit of graininess through the brake pedal as I am coming to a stop. It doesn't happen initially - just towards the end.

Anybody else get this same feeling? Is it the stock pads? Or is it in my head?

Brent

do you downshift when you are coming to full stop or do you leave it in neutral?

It feels smooth to me. The only time it doesn't is when I first use the brakes after a day or two of rest.

Sorry, I am lazy, I take it out of gear as I am nearing a full stop...

Happens to mine too, but nothing bad seems to come of it, so I am not too worried.

I used to think my EVO had a wierd grindy kind of resonance from the brakes as I neared a gentle stop. Then, I put on some ContiExtremes for the winter and I realized that it was just the OEM tires. It gets much worse as the tires wear out. I see you're in CA, so I assume you're still using the stock tires.

Yeah, I noticed once I rotated the tires it was smooth as silk. Make sure you do the rotations every 5000 mi. You can also take a look at your discs (I assume you have). If they are clean I wouldn't sweat it. Chalk it up to all the cool buzzing/clunking/growling/whining/sucking sounds this car makes!

I don't know about that. I think that's kind of a gross generalization on your part.

Just because I am asking the question doesn't mean I am disappointed in the car. I am just getting to know the different noises and quirks that come from getting accustomed to a new car. I do that with all my cars regardless if it was a Ford Mustang GT or Lexus GS400 or a BMW M3...

Using such harsh words tends to ruffle a lot of feathers...so please chill because it's just a question... OK? Thanks!

LOL, yeah no doubt. A lot of peeps wanting instant performance didnt realize the compromises (sacrifices) involved, and all the extra clicks, groans, whines, clunks, bumps, squeals involved on a vehicle this fast, this inexpensive

Then they get shocked even more when they find out all the go fast bits are bank.

I think it's great, I dig my Evo!

No disrespect. It's good you ask such a question, then you can get a general idea from us that it's ok. Being around on this board for a while is what makes this amusing. Many, many people were not prepaired to own a car like this. It took me like 3 different AWD cars to finally get use to the cacophony of these things =) I do miss my old M cars sound and the way the engine felt.

I really do dig my Evo...just trying to compare notes with those that have owned the car longer. Thanks!
